BAYLOR PLAYS LONG BALL FOR SERIES WIN AT KANSAS
In winning its first road series of the season May 1-3 at Kansas and first since taking two of three at Oklahoma on May 2-4, 2014, Baylor clinched the rubber match with three home runs. It was BU's first three-homer game since Feb. 26, 2012, at UCLA. Darryn Sheppard hit his first two homers of the season and fourth and fifth of his career - the three-run shot and two-run shot gave him a career high RBI total (5) for a single game. He's the first Bear with a multi-homer game since Grayson Porter did so on March 30, 2013, against Kansas State, which was also the last time a Baylor player drove in five runs. Aaron Dodson hit the third homer and third of his season and sixth of his career.
Logan Brown NAMED FIRST-TEAM ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT VII
Baylor senior outfielder Logan Brown was named to the 2014-15 Capital One Academic All-District VII first team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced May 7.
The Rowlett, Texas, native was one of 11 members of the District VII first team and one of 88 first team choices among Division I schools. Brown, an electrical engineering major with a 3.77 GPA, garnered the honor for the second time in his career as he was also a first-team All-District VII honoree in 2013.
Brown's selection extends Baylor's run of having at least one academic all-district student-athlete to 10 seasons. Since 1998, the only year the Bears did not have a recipient of the honor was in 2005, and 2002, 2004 and 2013 are the only other years BU has had just one honoree.
With Brown's first-team nod, he moves onto the Capital One Academic All-America ballot. To be eligible for academic all-district teams, student-athletes must be starters or important reserves with at least 3.30 cumulative grade point averages on a scale of 4.00. Candidates also must complete at least one full academic year at the nominating institution and be at least sophomores athletically. Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 20,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
