THE RUNDOWN
STILLWATER, Okla.
- Baylor (14-23, 4-9) dropped the series opener at No. 17 Oklahoma State (25-12, 9-4) in a 10-4 decision Saturday afternoon at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium. The Cowboys used a pair of runs in the fourth and fifth along with a four-run sixth to put away the Bears.
BU started the day well, taking the game's first lead with an RBI groundout by West Tunnell in the third. The Bears made it a 2-0 lead with a two-out RBI single by Justin Arrington in the fourth.
Then came OSU's fury of runs as the Cowboys scored two in the fourth on two hits, two errors and a wild pitch. OSU added two more in the fifth on three hits and an error. In the sixth, after scoring three runs on two hits and a wild pitch, Donnie Walton blasted a two-run homer to put the game out of reach.
The Bears rallied in the eighth as Mitch Price led off with a single and Kameron Esthay followed with a double. Pinch-runner Steven McLean scored on a wild pitch before Aaron Dodson roped an RBI single to cut it to a 9-4 deficit but BU did no more damage as OSU added an eighth inning run.
OSU starter Jon Perrin (4-3) earned the win as he gave up two runs on six hits and one walk with three strikeouts in 6.1 innings. BU starter Daniel Castano (2-5) took the loss after giving up six runs on eight hits and one walk with four strikeouts in 5.1 innings.
