THE RUNDOWN
ARLINGTON, Texas
- Baylor (10-14) earned a 6-2 win over UT Arlington (12-10) Tuesday evening at Clay Gould Ballpark. The Bears were fueled by early runs and stellar pitching from freshmen Theron Kay and Troy Montemayor.

The first inning started off great for the Bears as Logan Brown reached on a bunt single and Hayden Ross singled to move Brown to third. Duncan Wendel followed with a fielder's choice RBI, and after a Mitch Price single, Jonathan Ducoff delivered a two-run single with two outs and a 0-2 count.

The Mavericks countered with two runs on three hits in the bottom of the first but it was all they'd get off Baylor's pitchers, and the Bears added more runs in the second.

Levi Gilcrease started the second with a bunt single and Brown followed with a walk. An out later, Wendel and Price had RBI singles. Then Ducoff struck again with two strikes and two outs as he singled up the middle to drive in the game's last run.

Once starter Kay settled in he retired eight straight batters until giving up a one-out walk in the sixth. Kay (3-1) earned the win after allowing two runs on six hits and one walk with four strikeouts in seven innings. Montemayor finished the game, giving up no runs on three hits and a walk with one strikeout in two innings. UTA starter Kyle Laberge (1-3) took the loss, surrendering six runs on eight hits and one walk with two strikeouts in 1.2 innings.

QUOTE OF THE GAME
"Theron [Kay] certainly was on his game. After the first inning, he really settled and pitched it really well, and Troy [Montemayor] came in and was able to finish it off at the end. We're very thin in the bullpen right now so the margin of error was small for those two freshmen. It was big for them to do what they did." - Baylor head coach Steve Smith
