FULLERTON, Calif. - No. 25 Baylor (6-4) lost the second game of a doubleheader at Cal State Fullerton (4-5) Friday night at Goodwin Field. The Bears were unable to hang onto a 6-3 lead as the Titans scored six runs in the eighth inning for a doubleheader sweep.
Baylor struck right away as an error and wild pitch helped Levi Gilcrease score after a walk. Aaron Dodson followed with an RBI triple to give the Bears a 2-0 lead. However, the Titans countered with two runs on four hits and an error in the bottom half.
After Fullerton scored a run on two hits in the third, the Bear regained the lead in the fourth. Following a Dodson double and Mitch Price single to begin the inning, Duncan Wendel hit into a fielder's choice RBI. An out later, two wild pitches scored Wendel.
The Bears added onto their lead in the fifth after another Dodson double. Price backed it up with a long homer run to left field for a 6-3 lead.
Fullerton responded in the sixth with two runs on three hits and an error, and then took full control of the game in the eighth.
With Joe Kirkland on the mound to start the inning, a double, HBP and walk led to Sean Spicer taking over on the mound. Unfortunately, Spicer gave up a two-run double to Josh Estill, RBI single to A.J. Kennedy and three-run triple to Scott Hurst for an 11-6 lead that Baylor was unable to overcome.
Connor Seabold (1-0) earned the win in relief, allowing two runs on three hits with three strikeouts in four innings. Kirkland (2-1) took the loss, surrendering three runs on one hit and walk with an HBP without recording an out.
