THE RUNDOWN
VESTAVIA HILLS, Ala. ÃÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢' ¬" Baylor men's golf is in eighth place at 13-over-par 573 after Monday's two rounds of play at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate. The Bears shot 9-over-par 289 in the first round and improved in the second round to 4-over-par 284, placing them seven strokes back of the top-five entering Tuesday's final round at The Old Overton Club.
Senior Frederik Anderson shot even-par 140 on the day, rallying in his second round to shoot a career-best 5-under 65, launching 34 spots on the leaderboard into a tie for 12th place. Andreas Gjesteby shot back-to-back rounds of 1-over 71, placing him in a tie for 18th place.
Freshman Braden Bailey is tied for 37th after shooting 6-over 146, and freshman Garrett May shot 7-over 147 to tie for 41st place. Sophomor Matthew Perrine is tied for 51st after carding 10-over 150.
Alabama (-14) leads the tournament by eight strokes. Auburn (-6) holds second place, followed by Florida (-5) in third, Florida State (-2) in fourth, UNLV (+6) in fifth and UAB (+9) in sixth. Arkansas (+11) is seventh, two strokes ahead of Baylor (+13) in eighth place. The Bears are ahead of UTSA (+14), Kennesaw State (+24), Mississippi State (+26) and Charlotte (+30).
HIGHLIGHTS
- Baylor is tied for fifth in par-4 scoring at 1-over 4.01.
- Baylor is sixth in birdies recorded, with 30 after two rounds.
- Frederik Andersen is tied for second in par-4 scoring at 6-under 3.75, while Andreas Gjesteby is tied for 12th at 2-under 2.92.
- Matthew Perrine and Braden Bailey are tied for the team lead and rank tied for 16th overall in par-5 scoring at 1-under 4.75.
- Andersen leads the team and is tied for third in the field with 10 birdies through 36 holes.
- Gjesteby is tied for ninth in the field with 24 pars, while Perrine is tied for 14th with 23.
