THE RUNDOWN
SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- Baylor women's golf is in eighth place after shooting 6-over-par 294 in Monday's second round at the Alamo Invitational. BU is at 21-over 597 through two rounds at Briggs Ranch Golf Club, just four strokes back of the top five.
Laura Lonardi matched her first-round score with another even-par 72. She's tied for fifth place individually, three strokes back of co-leaders Arkansas' Regina Plasencia and Florida's Maria Torres, both at 3-under 141. Lonardi was 3-over after 10 holes on Monday, but she made birdies on No. 11, No. 14 and No. 17 to get back to even-par.
Natalia Perez improved by six strokes from her opening round with an even-par 72 to climb all the way to a tie for 31st place. She made 14 pars, two bogies and two birdies, including one birdie on No. 18 to finish the day even. Giovana Maymon again shot 4-over 76 and is tied for 43rd place at 8-over through 36 holes. Maggie Beth Byers improved by five strokes over her first round with a 2-over 74, and she is tied for 47th at 9-over 153, while Louise Gateau-Chovelon shot 7-over 79 and sits tied for 62nd place at 12-over 156.
Florida (+3) leads the tournament by six strokes over Arkansas (+9). TCU (+12), Texas Tech (+15) and Wisconsin (+17) round out the top five, while Texas State (+18) is in sixth place and Mississippi State (+21) is two strokes in front of Baylor in seventh place. The Bears are in front of UTSA (+22), SMU (+23), Oklahoma (+23), Houston (+26), Texas A&M (+31), Tulane (+33) and LSU (+37).
HIGHLIGHTS
- Baylor ranks tied for third in par-5 scoring average at 2-under 4.95, tied for eighth in par-3 scoring at 9-over 3.22 and 10th in par-4 scoring at 28-over 4.28.
- Baylor made 14 birdies in the second round, tied for fifth-most in the field and twice as many as the seven birdies it made in the first round.
- After ranking tied for 14th in par-3 scoring on Sunday, Baylor's second-round par-3 scoring average of 1-over 3.05 tied for third-best in the 15-team field.
- Laura Lonardi ranks in the top-25 in par-3, par-4 and par-5 scoring average. She's tied for second in par-5 scoring at 3-under 4.62, tied for 12th in par-4 scoring at 2-over 4.10 and tied for 21st in par-3 scoring at 1-over 3.12.
- Lonardi is also tied for third with seven birdies across 36 holes, accounting for one-third of Baylor's total.
- Giovana Maymon is tied for fourth in par-3 scoring average at 1-under 2.88.
- Natalia Perez is tied for 12th in par-4 scoring average at 2-over 4.10 and tied for 14th with 24 pars made.
- Maggie Beth Byers has made 23 pars, tied for 19th-most in the field.

"We are seeing some better golf being played, but all of the girls feel like they left shots on the course," head coach Jay Goble said. "The fall is all about learning and getting better, and I feel we are doing that. Laura played a very solid round again, and she is showing lots of perseverance out there. She's been over par in both of her rounds and brought them back to even."
