THE RUNDOWN
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- Baylor women's golf finished the Tar Heel Invitational in 15th place after shooting an 8-over 296 on Sunday in the third and final round at UNC's Finley Golf Course. Sunday's round moved the Bears up one spot in the standings at 52-over 916.
Laura Lonardi shot an even-par 72 to finish the tournament tied for 18th place, moving up 15 spots from Saturday when she ended the day tied for 33rd place. Giovana Maymon's 1-over 73 moved her into a tie for 47th place at 11-over 227, and Maggie Beth Byers shot a 4-over 76 to end her weekend tied for 71st with a final round score of 18-over 234.
Lauren Whyte ended the tournament in 85th after shooting an 8-over 80 to finish with a score of 22-over 238. Louise Gateau-Chovelon rounded out the Baylor team with a tie for 87th place finish at 25-over 241 after shooting a 3-over 75 Sunday.
Duke won the 18-team tournament with a final score of 3-over 867, with Arkansas (+16) and Louisville (+18) finishing in second and third, respectively. Michigan State (+19) finished fourth and North Carolina State (+20) rounded out the top five. BU placed ahead of Rollins (+65), UNC Wilmington (+68) and Kentucky (+69).
HIGHLIGHTS
- Laura Lonardi tied for fourth in par-3 scoring average at 2-under 2.83.
- Giovana Maymon and Lonardi tied for 14th in par-5 scoring average at 1-under 4.92.
- Lonardi's 37 pars over 54 holes tied for 16th-most in the field.
- Louise Gateau-Chovelon led BU in par-4 scoring at 8-over 4.27.
- Maymon, Lauren Whyte and Lonardi tied for the team lead with six birdies apiece.
- Maggie Beth Byers made 35 pars over 54 holes, tied for 28th-most in the field.
- Maymon made three consecutive birdies on the par-3 fifth hole, the par-5 sixth hole and the par-4 seventh hole.
- Baylor finished sixth in par-3 scoring average at 7-over 3.12, tied for 13th in par-4 scoring average at 55-over 4.37 and 18th in par-5 scoring at 20-over 5.33.
- BU finished 13th with 161 pars and 13th with 24 birdies.
STAT OF THE DAY
13 -- Baylor made 13 birdies on Sunday after recording 11 birdies over the first two rounds combined. Lonardi had a team-high four birdies, followed by Gateau-Chovelon and Maymon with three apiece, two from Whyte and one from Byers.

Baylor returns to action Oct. 25-27 at the Alamo Invitational at San Antonio's Briggs Ranch Golf Club. BU will be returning to the course where it won the 2014 NCAA San Antonio Regional, claiming the program's first-ever regional title. Baylor also played the 2014 Alamo Invitational, finishing sixth in a 14-team field.
