June 25, 2014

WACO, Texas- With Baylor baseball's season ending nearly a month ago, 12 of the returning players for 2015 have been playing in various summer collegiate leagues across the country. The yearly tradition allows players to keep improving their skills in a live-game atmosphere against some of the country's top talent.

After redshirting during the 2014 college season, sophomore Hunter Abbe is with the Strasburg Express. He has made eight relief appearances covering 8.1 innings with 11 strikeouts and four hits allowed. He has no record with a 4.32 ERA as he's allowed eight walks, three of which came in his last appearance. Abbe has had at least one strikeout in all but one appearance and had a phenomenal outing on June 17th as he struck out four batters in 1.1 innings while giving up no hits or walks.

After having success late in the collegiate season, Nick Lewis has continued the trend with the Valley Blue Sox. In three starts, he is 1-0 with a 2.50 ERA in 18 innings. He's allowed six runs (five earned) on 14 hits and four walks with 16 strikeouts.

Another 2014 redshirt in freshman Cameron Miller is having summer success as a member of the Albany Dutchmen of the Perfect Game League. Through 16 games, Miller leads the Dutchmen in hitting (.333), doubles (5) and walks (9). Miller's Dutchmen and Baylor teammate freshman Drew Tolson is also enjoying his time in New York.

Tolson was recently named the team's Spotlight Player of the Week for his last outing, in which he threw seven innings (six perfect) while allowing one run on one hit with six strikeouts in a win. Coming off a successful redshirt freshman season that saw him make the weekend rotation for the final month, Tolson is picking up where he left off. In 22 innings with Albany, he is 2-0 with a 1.23 ERA with one complete game in three starts. He's allowed just four runs (three earned) on eight hits and zero walks with 16 strikeouts.

Sophomore West Tunnell is part of the Palm Springs Power hit parade. Currently, the Power are hitting .358 as a team and Tunnell is at .348 in 14 games. He has seven runs, 16 hits, two doubles, two triples, one homer, eight RBI and two steals.
