THE RUNDOWN
SAN MARCOS, Texas- Baylor baseball dropped a 2-0 game to Texas State on Wednesday night at Bobcat Ballpark. The Bears (19-22) were unable to overcome the Bobcats' (23-18) two-run eighth.

In a pitcher's duel type of game, Baylor came up on the wrong end as the Bears struggled to get out of the eighth inning. After Nick Lewis allowed a leadoff single, Doug Ashby took over on the mound and got a swinging strikeout but the runner stole second. Pinch-hitter Cameron Friess then hit an RBI single to center to put Texas State ahead. An out and stolen base later, Tyler Pearson delivered a two-out RBI single for insurance.

The Bears put the tying run at the plate in the ninth as Darryn Sheppard had a two-out single, but Aaron Dodson grounded out to second to end the game.

In his first start of the season, Sean Spicer had a career-high six strikeouts in four scoreless innings as he allowed just three hits and no walks. Lewis (1-1) took the loss despite a quality outing, surrendering a run on one hit and two walks with two strikeouts in three innings.

TWEET OF THE GAME

TOP QUOTE
"Sean Spicer was exceptional. We defended it fairly decently. We made a couple of errors but [Spicer and Nick Lewis] both overcame it. Neither club swung the bats particularly well tonight. You have to give credit to the pitchers today."
- BU head coach Steve Smith
