NORMAN, Okla. - A five-run sixth inning put the game out of reach, as No. 17 Baylor (29-10, 3-5) fell 8-0 (6) at No. 1 Oklahoma (34-2, 3-0) Sunday afternoon at Marita Hynes Field in Norman.

"I am disappointed to not come away from this weekend with a win," head coach Glenn Moore said. "We were in every game, but little breakdowns led to big innings. I thought we had good offensive game plans and performances on Friday and Saturday, and we have to get better from this weekend."

Clare Hosack had two of the team's four hits, including a double. Kelsi Kettler added a double of her own and Sarah Smith registered the other hit.

Whitney Canion (15-6) got the start and loss for BU, allowing one hit, three runs and walking three in 2.0 innings. Heather Stearns pitched three innings in relief after Saturday's performance that gave up just one earned run.

"I am very proud of Heather's pitching this weekend," Moore said. "She went toe-to-toe with a great lineup and battled every pitch."

After getting two outs in the first, Shelbey Pendley hit a solo homer that barely crept over the right field wall for a 1-0 lead.

Stearns came on in relief of Canion to start the third inning. With two outs, Keilani Ricketts was intentionally walked and Brittany Williams followed by drawing a full-count walk for a 2-0 lead. Stearns got herself out of the jam by getting Destinee Martinez to pop out to third to end the threat.

The Lady Bears threatened in the top of the fourth beginning with a two-out walk from Sarah Smith. Hosack followed with a double down the left field line to put a pair of runners in scoring position for Jordan Strickland, who grounded out to short to end the threat.

The Sooners added a third run with two outs in the fourth on an RBI-single to left center from Georgia Casey for the three-run lead.

Baylor again had a runner in scoring position when Kettler doubled to right center with one out in the fifth, but back-to-back outs ended the threat.

Smith and Hosack again teamed up to put runners on with back-to-back singles with two outs in the sixth. Strickland stepped to the plate and hit a grounder in the hole at short the was fielded and thrown over to third in time for the force to end the inning.

Oklahoma added five runs in the sixth, two coming off a home run, one on a wild pitch and a two-RBI single to end the game.

Baylor will look to rebound with six games in six days, beginning at Texas State on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. followed by a doubleheader at Stephen F. Austin on Wednesday at 2 and 4 p.m.
