HONOLULU, Hawaii - The Baylor (25-5) offense mustered just four hits in a 5-1 loss at No. 15 Hawaii (21-7) in the semifinal round of the Chevron Spring Fling Saturday afternoon in Honolulu. The 15th ranked Lady Bears wrapped up the tournament 3-2, going 1-2 against ranked foes.

"Their pitcher was great today," Moore said. "I thought we kept battling, we just couldn't break through. I am happy with how we played on this trip. It's easy to be distracted out here, but we showed up ready and I believe this team proved how good it can be the rest of the way."

Heather Stearns (7-2) suffered her first loss since Feb. 8, going 5.1 innings, allowing five hits, five runs, four earned, three walks and seven strikeouts. Whitney Canion came on to work the final 1.2, giving up a pair of hits and striking out two.

Kaia Parnaby (19-3) allowed just four Baylor hits, giving up a run, no walks and striking out eight.

Kathy Shelton moved her hitting streak to nine games in the loss, as the senior hit .588 (10-for-17) during the tournament. Four different Lady Bears recorded a hit, as Sarah Smith drove in Baylor's only run of the game.

Stearns held Hawaii scoreless until allowing a two-out walk in the fifth, that was followed by a home run to left center by Kelly Majam, giving the Rainbow Wahine a 2-0 lead.

After getting a leadoff groundout, Stearns gave up a double and a walk to put runners at first and second. Sharla Kleibenstein then laid down a sac bunt to the pitcher, but Stearns overthrew first, allowing another run to score to make it 3-0. An RBI-single to left followed for the four-run UH lead before Canion came on in relief. A bunt to first loaded the bases, and Canion walked in a run to make it a three-run inning and five-run deficit.

The Lady Bears tried to rally in the bottom of the inning, as Jordan Strickland led off the inning with a single through the left side and Kaitlyn Thumann added a single to first to start a threat. The next two Baylor batters flew out before Smith could drive in Strickland with a single to right center for her 17th RBI of the year.

Baylor will have one final tune-up game before Big 12 play begins, traveling to UT Arlington on Wed., March 20 for a 5 p.m. game against the Mavericks.
