WACO, Texas- No. 22 Baylor (3-2) capped off three-games in one day with a no-hitter from freshman Heather Stearns, as the Lady Bears went 2-1 on day three of the Fairfield Inn & Suites Waco North Getterman Classic.

The last time BU played three games in a day was Feb. 22, 2003 as part of a tournament in Monroe, Louisiana.

Baylor fell to Sam Houston State 2-0 in eight innings before picking up back-to-back wins over Northern Illinois.

"I am proud of our senior leadership today," head coach Glenn Moore said. "We didn't start the day the way we wanted, but our pitching was great today and we finished on a positive note with a great game from Heather."

Kaitlyn Thumann paced the offense, going 5-for-9, while the pitchers allowed just one earned run in 22.0 innings of play.

Game One
Whitney Canion struck out 12 batters and didn't allow a run until going to the international tie-break rule in the eighth, eventually falling to Sam Houston State 2-0. Baylor outhit the Bearkats 8-4.

Sam Houston State had a runner put on second in the eighth, and a sacrifice bunt advanced her to third with just one out. A single from Amy Pelton over the outreached glove of Robin Landrith drove in the game's first run and gave the Bearkats a 1-0 lead. With two outs and runners at the corners, Jessica Slater singled over short for the two-run cushion.

The Lady Bears tried to answer in the bottom half, as Holly Holl led off with a single that sent Shelton to third with no outs. Linsey Hays stepped in a hit a sharp line drive right at the shortstop, who then fired over to first in time to get pinch runner Sydney Betke for the second out. Canion ended the game on a groundout to third.

Baylor nearly ended the game in the bottom of the seventh, starting a two-out rally. Clare Hosack laced a single to right center and Landrith followed with an infield single to second. A walk to Thumann loaded the bases for Kathy Shelton, who lined out to second, ending the threat.

Canion (1-1) took the loss despite striking out 12 in 8.0 innings, giving up two runs, one earned and one walk.

Game Two
Courtney Repka threw a one-hitter, giving up one unearned run in a 4-1 win over Northern Illinois in game two.

The Huskies got on the board in the first, when an error at second allowed the inning to continue. Shelby Miller hit a single to left center that scored Nicole Germillion for a 1-0 lead.

After 20.0 innings without scoring a run, the Baylor offense finally got on the board in the sixth with four runs. Holl and Hays hit back-to-back singles, and with one out, Canion loaded the bases with a single of her own. That set the stage for freshman Bailey Chalmers, whose first career hit was a two-RBI single down the left field line for a 2-1 advantage. Sarah Smith followed with a single to left that went thru the legs of the left fielder and rolled to tht wall, scoring two runs for the 4-1 lead.

Repka closed out the victory, her first of the season, allowing just one hit, one unearned run, no walks and striking out six in 7.0 innings.

Game Three
The Lady Bears saved the best for last, as the third game of the day was moved up a day to avoid inclement weather.

Making just her second start, freshman Heather Stearns threw a complete-game no-hitter in a 1-0 win over Northern Illinois. The performance was just the 16th no-hitter all-time at Baylor and the ninth in 7.0 or more innings. Stearns became the sixth freshman to throw a no-hitter.

Stearns (1-1) allowed just two baserunner all night, an error she made in the circle in the first and a hit by pitch in the second. She retired 17-straight batters to end the game, striking out nine. The Plano, Texas, native, also drove in the game's lone run.

With score still at 0-0, Thumann led off the fifth with a double to the right field wall for the first hit by either team. A Smith bunt allowed Thumann to reach third, and Stearns stepped up and delivered an RBI-gorundout to shortstop for the only run she would need all night.

"I felt much more comfortable in the circle tonight," Stearns said. "I just concentrated on each pitch and what I needed to do."

Baylor finished the tournament 3-2 and will await to see if it can claim the tournament title. Sam Houston State and Northern Illinois are set to play the final game at 10 a.m. on Sunday morning. If Northern Illinois wins, Baylor wins the tournament, if SHSU wins, the Bearkats take home the championship.
