WACO - Baylor's pitching staff combined for a two-hit shutout, as the Lady Bears (10-2) extended their win streak to nine after a 3-0 win over Pacific (6-2) to claim the Miken Classic title Sunday at Getterman Stadium.

"I believe we got better this weekend," head coach Glenn Moore said. "Our pitching continues to be phenomenal, our defense improved and the hitters delivered in the clutch."

Linsey Hays went 2-for-3 with an RBI on the day, notching second home run of the year. Kathy Shelton extended her hit streak to seven games, as the senior has reached safely in all 12 games this season.

Whitney Canion (4-1), making her third start in as many days, picked up the win, allowing two hits, walking two and striking out four in 5.0 innings. Heather Stearns picked up her first career save, allowing no hits, runs, walks and striking out one in the game's final 2.0 innings.

Scoreless heading to the bottom of the second, Hays led off and took the first pitch over the left field wall for a 1-0 lead.

Hays sparked the BU offense again in the fourth, leading off with a single to right and advanced to second when the right fielder bobbled the ball. After two outs, Sarah Smith came to the plate and laced and RBI-single up the middle for a 2-0 lead. Jordan Strickland added another two-out RBI two batters later, roping a single to left to make it 3-0.

"I am proud that we won our first two tournaments at home," Moore said. "I am eager to see how we respond on the road over the next couple of weekends."

The Lady Bears hit .368 on the weekend, including a .993 fielding percentage. Shelton led the team with 10 hits during the five-game run, hitting .556, while Sarah Smith totaled a .538 average. The pitching staff recorded a 0.64 ERA, allowing just 12 hits, walking seven and striking out 30 in 33.0 innings. Opponents hit just .111 off the four Baylor pitchers during the tournament.

For their tournament efforts, Shelton, Smith, Kaitlyn Thumann, Clare Hosack, Canion, Courtney Repka, Stearns and Holly Holl were each named to the All-Tournament team.

Baylor will hit the road for the first time this season, traveling to the Texas Shootout in San Marcos. The Lady Bears will open against host Texas State on Thurs., Feb. 21 at 7:00 p.m. on 1660 ESPN Central Texas.
