AUSTIN, Texas - A two-run fifth inning pushed No. 8 Texas (42-10, 16-8) to a 3-1 victory over No. 23 Baylor Sunday afternoon at McCombs Field in Austin. The Lady Bears surrendered just seven hits but stranded seven runners in the loss.

"We fought hard today, and that's exactly what I wanted to see," head coach Glenn Moore said. "I wanted to make sure we came away from today feeling good about ourselves and ready for the postseason. I think we did both and will be a tough team for anyone in Regionals."

Kaitlyn Thumann continued her hot-hitting ways, going 3-for-3 and extending her hitting streak to six games. With her pair of walks, Holly Holl has now reached base safely in 13-straight games, a season best for any Baylor player.

Liz Paul (11-8) took the loss after coming on in relief, allowing four hits, two runs and striking out four in 4.0 inning of work. Courtney Repka got the start and lasted 2.0 innings, giving up three hits, one run and one walk.

Baylor nearly took an early lead, loading the bases with two outs in the second. Thumann led off the inning with a single and reached second by sliding in safely on a fielder's choice. A two-out walk to Kelsi Kettler loaded the bases, but Blaire Luna got Melissa Schreck swinging to end the threat.

Texas took the lead in the bottom half of the inning on a two-out RBI-single to shortstop from Brejae Washington, making it 1-0.

The Lady Bears answered back to tie the game in the top of the third with a double steal. With two outs, Holl walked to start the rally and reached second on a passed ball. A single up the middle from Thumann put runners on the corners, and the throw down to second on a steal attempt, allowing Holl to break for home and slide in safely.

The Longhorns snatched the lead back in the fifth, as Mandy Ogle led off the inning with a triple down the right field line. Washington added her second RBI of the day with another infield single, making it 2-1. With two outs, UT got its second tw-out run of the day on a single to left from Nadia Taylor, giving the Horns a 3-1 lead.

Luna (18-4) picked up the win, going 7.0 innings, giving up four hits, one unearned run, walking four and striking out 10.

Baylor will await its selection into the NCAA Tournament which occurs at 9 pm this evening on ESPNU. Fans and media are invited to attend the watch party in the Stone Room at the Ferrell Center, with doors opening at approximately 8:40 pm.
