STILLWATER, Okla. - The No. 25 Baylor softball team (30-18, 7-12) picked up a series win at Oklahoma State with a split against the Cowgirls (24-21, 7-11) Saturday afternoon at the Cowgirl Softball Stadium in Stillwater, Okla. The Lady Bears picked up a 1-0 win in game one of the day before falling 2-0 in the nightcap.
"We played good, tough softball this weekend and got what we needed," head coach Glenn Moore said. "We would have liked to get the sweep, but a series win on the road is big in this conference."
The series win marked the second for BU after taking two of three from Kansas on April 6-7.
Game One
Baylor 1, Oklahoma State 0
Megan Turk's sac fly RBI was the only run Baylor needed, as Liz Paul threw a complete-game shutout en route to a 1-0 win in game one.
Paul (9-7) allowed just three hits, walking three and striking out three in 7.0 innings of work for her third complete-game shutout of the year.
Kayce Walker paced the offense with a pair of hits and a run scored.
Walker led off the sixth with a single to short and advanced to third on a double from Holly Holl that put runners at second and third with nobody out. Following a strikeout by Sarah Crockett, Turk laced a deep fly ball that scored Walker for the 1-0 advantage.
Paul worked out of a jam to close out the game in the seventh when Chelsea Garcia began the inning with a single and advanced to second on a fielding error at short. The sophomore righty coaxed a fielder's choice groundout at third and a fly ball to end the game and the win.
Game Two
Oklahoma State 2, Baylor 0
A two-run homer from Chelsea Garcia in the bottom of the fourth kept Baylor from a three-game sweep of the Cowgirls, as OSU took the nightcap 2-0.
Kaitlyn Thumann and Holly Holl each registered two hits apiece, as the Lady Bears totaled five on the night.
Courtney Repka (15-10) took the loss despite giving up just five hits, two runs, three walks and striking out two in 5.1 innings. Paul came on to throw a perfect final 0.2 innings.
The game's lone scoring occurred in the fourth when Garcia tallied a two-run homer over left field that scored Julie Ward, who led off the inning with a single.
The Lady Bears looked to answer in the sixth with a one-out double by Holl, her 13th of the year. After advancing to third on a wild pitch, Clare Hosack and Turk each popped out and BU was unable to scratch a run across.
Baylor will host Texas on Tuesday with first pitch set for 6:30 p.m. at Getterman Stadium. The first 750 fans will receive a free neon green Baylor softball shirt.
