The No. 10 Baylor softball team (12-2) will hit the road for the second time this season, traveling to the 2012 Citrus Classic at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex on March 2-4 in Orlando, Fla.
"This is a great tournament and field that we are very excited to be a part of," head coach Glenn Moore said. "Given our circumstances, we are going to have to be mentally tough and require our leaders to step up. We have the talent, we just have to go out and turn it loose."
The Lady Bears begin the tournament on Friday against No. 18 Oregon (8-2) at 3:45 pm CT and follow with a game versus No. 24 North Carolina (11-2) at 6:00 pm CT. Baylor will then take on No. 16 UCLA (11-4) on Saturday in a game that can be seen nationally on ESPN3.com starting at 9:00 am CT and finish the day with Illinois State (7-8) at 11:15 am CT. BU will wrap up the tournament with a matchup against Syracuse (5-5) on Sunday at 8:00 am CT.
Baylor will play its first games without All-American pitcher Whitney Canion, who tore her ACL last Sunday against North Texas. In her place, BU will look to junior Courtney Repka (5-0, 0.81 ERA) and sophomore Liz Paul(1-1, 2.28 ERA) to carry the weight in the pitching circle.
Offensively, the Lady €ˆBears are led by junior outfielder Kathy Shelton, who leads the team in batting average (.409), runs (16), hits (18) and stolen bases (8). Senior Megan Turk has had a hot start to her final season in the Green and Gold, hitting .366, while sophomore Holly Holl (.333) leads the team in doubles (5) and RBI (11).
