Baylor Head Coach Steve Smith

On too many walks given out by Baylor pitchers against TCU €¦
"We dodged some bullets with that. It's a new era of baseball with the bat. They hit some balls pretty well that a couple years ago would have left the ballpark, but it's the bat we're all playing with. It makes the game a whole lot better. We stilled attacked the strike zone."

On the hitting approach of the team early on in the season €¦
"I like what we're doing at the plate. Our guys are doing a good job of staying within themselves and approaching each at-bat with a very focused mentality. They are going through a pretty good routine most of the time."

On the impact of Trent Blank to the pitching staff €¦
"I think what Trent has done is give us two good relief outings. That's what this was. He wasn't ready to start a game and (Tyler) Bremer is going to start tomorrow, but it's going to be the same type of situation. He threw three-plus innings on Sunday, so it's like he's in relief and we're in the first inning. He'll get us off to a good start. Trent got us off to a good start. He threw a lot of strikes in that first inning, they didn't barrel up on much of anything, and he was getting a lot of routine plays. He struggled a little bit with some delivery things, but at the end of the day, they didn't score and didn't get any hits off of him, so you've got to give him credit for that."

Baylor RHP Joey Hainsfurther

On early success of the pitching staff €¦
"Trent (Blank) really threw the ball well, and so did (Kolt) Browder today. That was a tough act to follow. Our pitching staff has really been working hard and focusing on what it can control, and it's given us good results so far. I felt like I threw the ball pretty well tonight, but what killed me is that walk, and that's something that I can control. I've got something to work on there. I've got to give my hat off to their hitters for staying in the game, down by a big lead, and they were still battling."

Baylor C Josh Ludy

On getting early lead against TCU €¦
"We did a good job early of getting on the board and getting one in the first, second, and fourth, which gave us a 3-0 lead. The way our pitching staff is going right now, that's going to win us a lot of ball games. Luckily, in the eighth, we were able to tack on four more."

Baylor RHP Trent Blank

On team almost getting a combined no-hitter €¦
"I was hoping for it. I definitely wasn't saying anything about it. We still got the win against TCU, a quality team, so I think everybody is happy."
