VERONA, N.Y. - Freshman Kyle Jones is tied atop the leaderboard and the Baylor men's golf team leads by three strokes Sunday after two rounds of the Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate.

Jones, who shot an opening-round 67, was two strokes behind first-round leader, Adam Schenk of Purdue, through the first 18 holes. The Snowflake, Ariz., native then carded a second-round 70 and buried 10 birdies in all to finish the day tied for the lead with TCU's Julien Brun at 7-under 137. Jones and Brun own a one-stroke lead.

"Kyle played really well Sunday and kept the ball in play both rounds," head coach Greg Priest said. "He's even-keeled on the course and doesn't appeared to get rattled. I hope that continues for Monday's final round."

At 13-under 563, Baylor is three strokes ahead of second-place Purdue (10-under 566) and four up on host Missouri (9-under 567). Bowling Green and TCU are the only other teams under-par after the first two rounds.

"Team-wise, we're off to a good start," Priest said. "With Kyle shooting 5-under in the morning, everyone else stayed around par and we had four under-par in the afternoon round. It's a good way to start the season, but now we have to finish the tournament."

Including Jones, four of Baylor's five golfers are under-par through 36 holes and three are tied for 14th place at 1-under 143 - freshman Mikkel Bjerch-Andresen and seniors Joakim Mikkelsen and Lorenzo Scotto. Bjerch-Andresen and Mikkelsen each shot a first-round 72 and posted matching 71s in the second round.

After shooting a first-round 74, senior Lorenzo Scotto bounced back in the afternoon with a 3-under 69, posting Baylor's second-lowest round Sunday. Ryan O'Rear registered one of Baylor's six sub-par rounds Sunday and is in 27th place at 2-over 146.

"We need to play golf like we know how," Priest said. "We can't think about winning the tournament or where we stand.

"We have to focus on execution and commitments to shots; we have to take it one shot, one hole at a time and not look ahead. If we do that, we'll be in good shape to win," Priest said.

The final round of the third annual Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate will tee off Monday with a 6:30 a.m. CDT shotgun start.
