2011 Rod Myers Invitational Tournament Central
DURHAM, N.C. - The Baylor men's golf team, ranked No. 23 nationally in the latest Golfweek / Sagarin ratings, continues its fall slate Oct. 1-2 at the second annual Rod Myers Invitational. The invitational, hosted by Duke University, is named after the late Rod Myers, who was a coaching legend for the Blue Devils from 1973-2007.
The two-day tournament will be held at the par-72, 7,136-yard Duke University Golf Club. Baylor is set to be paired with individuals from Michigan, Duke and North Carolina. The first and second rounds tee off Saturday at 7:40 a.m. CDT, while the final round begins Sunday at 7:05 a.m. CDT. Live scoring is available at www.GolfStat.com.
Baylor faces a highly-competitive 11-team field that includes 2010 RMI winner, Iowa. Tennessee and Duke are ranked 19th and 21st, respectively, in the latest Golf World/NIKE Golf Coaches' Poll. Baylor and Iowa are among the top five teams receiving votes in the latest coaches poll.
The Bears will field a lineup of seniors Joakim Mikkelsen and Lorenzo Scotto, junior Ryan O'Rear and freshmen Kyle Jones and Drew McGee. Through the season's first two tournaments, Baylor's lineup has boasted a 71.77 scoring average, 18 rounds of par or better, five top-10, seven top-15 and nine top-25 finishes. Mikkelsen has carded back-to-back top-10 finishes to open the season and currently has 13 career top-10 finishes, needing one more to tie Aaron Pellegrom (14) for fifth in program history.
Three weeks ago in Ann Arbor, Mich., Baylor placed second overall at the Wolverine Intercollegiate, with junior O'Rear posting a career-best performance and shot 4-under 209. Baylor opened the season with an 11-stroke victory at the Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate in Verona, N.Y.
