WACO, Texas - Baylor sophomore first baseman Max Muncy was named second-team all-Midwest Region, the American Baseball Coaches Association announced Thursday.

A native of Keller, Texas, Muncy became the first Baylor player to be named to an all-region team since Zach Dillon in 2006. In his second season with the Bears in 2011, Muncy was named first-team all-Big 12 Conference and earned Baylor's Larry Isbell Most Valuable Player Award.

Muncy led the Bears with a .322 batting average, 73 hits, 40 runs scored, nine home runs, 44 RBI, 116 total bases, 37 walks, a .428 on-base percentage and a .511 slugging percentage. He was also the Bears' only player to start all 59 games and he made just three errors in 563 chances at first base for a .995 fielding percentage.

Muncy joins Brandon Loy, Taylor Jungmann and Corey Knebel (Texas), Tyler Naquin, Ross Stripling and John Stilson (Texas A&M), Tyler Ogle and Michael Rocha (Oklahoma), Zach Johnson and Dane Phillips (Oklahoma State), Nick Martini and James Allen (Kansas State) and Cody Asche (Nebraska) to give the Big 12 a total of 14 players on the all-region teams.

Muncy, Naquin, Knebel and Phillips are four of the six underclassmen to be named all-Midwest Region, and Muncy's .995 fielding percentage trails only Dallas Baptist's Tyler Robbins (.996) among all-region honorees.

Baylor has had 27 ABCA all-region selections since 1996 and Muncy joins Charley Carter (1998) and Mike Huggins (2002) as the only Baylor first basemen to be honored.
