Complete Game Notes
Baylor opens the 2011 Big 12 Baseball Championship at 9 a.m. Wednesday against Oklahoma State. The Bears are on the same side of the bracket as Texas and Missouri, so the Bears will play their second game against one of those programs at either 9 a.m. or 4 p.m. on Thursday.
Baylor is coming off three consecutive Big 12 series wins to close the regular season. The Bears won two of three at Nebraska, took two of three at then-No. 19 Oklahoma State and wrapped up the regular season by taking two of three against No. 13 Oklahoma. The Bears' series win over the Sooners was their first over a top-15-ranked opponent since the 2006 season.
The Bears join Oklahoma as the only programs to qualify for all 15 Big 12 tournaments since the conference's first season in 1997. Baylor is 26-22 all-time in the Big 12 tournament, including a 24-18 mark in tournament games played in Oklahoma City. BIG 12 CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP HISTORY
The Big 12 Championship makes its 13th appearance at Oklahoma City this season. Each of the first five Big 12 tournaments, the 2003 tournament and each of the last six events were played in Oklahoma City. The 2002 and 2004 tournaments, both at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, were the only Big 12 tournaments not played in Oklahoma City. All-Sports €ˆStadium was the site of the first conference tournament in 1997; the next year, Bricktown Ballpark opened in OKC, and it served as the host site from 1998 to 2001.

BAYLOR VS. OKLAHOMA STATE SERIES HISTORY
Baylor is 31-36 in the all-time series against Oklahoma State, including a 3-8 mark in neutral site games. The Bears are 26-23 against the Cowboys in the Big 12 era, and Baylor has won eight of 12 three-game series between the teams in Big 12 play. Baylor swept Oklahoma State in the teams' final Big 12 series last season, clinching a spot in the Big 12 Championship with a win in the series opener. The Bears dropped the series opener, 1-0 in 10 innings, this season, but rebounded to win each of the final two games to claim their first series win in Stillwater since 2003.
BAYLOR VS. TEXAS SERIES HISTORY
Baylor is 100-229-4 all-time against Texas, including an 8-5 record in neutral-site games. Baylor's record is much better against the Longhorns during the Big 12 era at 23-33, and the Bears are 28-36 against UT €ˆduring the Steve Smith era.
Baylor has won seven series against UT in 15 seasons of Big 12 Conference play. Baylor won the first six series from 1997 through 2002 and took a series sweep in 2005. Texas won the series in 2003 and 2004 and has taken each of the last six series.
BAYLOR VS. MISSOURI SERIES HISTORY
Baylor leads the all-time series against Missouri 30-26, including a 6-3 record in neutral site games and a 28-26 mark in the Big 12 era. The Tigers took the bookend games in this season's series in Waco.
BAYLOR LEADS NATION WITH FOUR ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT HONOREES
Four Baylor baseball student-athletes earned Capital One Academic All-District VI honors, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced May 5. Baylor was the only program in the nation with four selections in the University Division.
Chris Slater was named to the first team, while Kolt Browder, Steve DalPorto and Logan Vick earned second-team recognition. The four selections tied a program record set when Baylor placed four student-athletes on CoSIDA's academic all-district team in 1999, and the Bears have had at least two academic all-district honorees in six straight seasons with 16 total selections during that span.
With his selection to the first team, Slater is again eligible for Academic All-America honors. He was named a second-team Academic All-American last season, giving Baylor nine such honors since 1998. He'll have the chance to join Jason Jennings and Jon Topolski as Baylor's only two-time Academic All-Americans.
BRACKETOLOGISTS SAY BEARS WILL BE 12-FOR-14
Baylor is projected by numerous publications to make its 12th NCAA €ˆRegional in the last 14 seasons. Here's a breakdown of the bracketologists:
• SEBaseball (May 22 Projections) -- No. 2 seed in Houston, Texas (Rice) Reigonal
• Perfect Game (May 17 Projections) -- No. 3 seed in Houston, Texas (Rice) Regional
• ESPN.com (May 18 Bracketology) -- No. 3 seed in Fullerton, €ˆCalif. (Cal €ˆState Fullerton) Regional
• College Baseball Daily (May 18 Projections) -- No. 3 seed in Fort Worth, Texas (TCU) Regional
• Baseball America (May 18 Stock Report) -- In as one of five Big 12 teams
• College Baseball Insider (May 13 Field of Dreamers) -- In as one of seven Big 12 teams
PINCKARD KEEPING PACE WITH 42 DIVISION I TEAMS
When NCAA baseball statistics were released on May 17, Brooks Pinckard was tied for fifth in the nation with 30 stolen bases. That total was at least as many as 42 Division I teams, including No. 22 Oklahoma State (29), Stanford (26) and No. 14 Southern Mississippi (21).
Pinckard became the fifth player in Baylor history and the 20th in Big 12 Conference history with 30 or more steals in a season. He needs nine more to tie Mike Robison (40 in 1991) for the single-season record at Baylor, and he needs 11 more to tie Kansas' John Nelson (42 in 2000) for the Big 12 Conference single-season record.
Pinckard became the 17th different player in €ˆBig 12 Conference history to steal 30 or more bases in a season. Three Big 12 players have accomplished the feat twice, giving the league 20 individual seasons of 30-plus stolen bases.
CARDIAC CUBS WALKING OFF WITH WINS
Baylor has six walk-off wins in 2011 after recording only one such victory last season. Baylor's only walk-off win in 2010 came in its 50th game of the season, when Brooks Pinckard knocked a two-run single to clinch the Bears' spot in the Big 12 Championship by winning the series opener against Oklahoma State on May 21.
Baylor won seven games with runs in its final at-bat during the entire 2010 season, but the Bears have already scored the winning runs in their final at-bat in eight games in 2011.

BOUNCE BACK BEARS
Baylor didn't lose consecutive games until its 25th and 26th games of the season. The Bears are 17-7 following a loss in 2011, and prior to dropping a pair of midweek games against UTSA and Lamar, the Bears hadn't lost consecutive regular-season games since losing a pair of games at Texas on May 1-2, 2010.
In fact, the Bears hadn't lost two in a row with both games at Baylor Ballpark in more than a year before dropping a pair of midweek games against UTSA (3/29) and Lamar (3/30). The last time that happened was when BU had a five-game losing streak from Feb. 27 through March 5, 2010. All five of those losses came against different teams, and the Bears snapped out of the losing streak by winning eight in a row.
Starting with that eight-game winning streak, the Bears have gone 37-17 on their home field, including an 18-6 mark in non-conference games.
WEEKEND SET SUCCESS
Despite losing four straight weekend series, the Bears have posted a winning record in 10 of their last 15 regular-season weekends, including eight of 13 weekends this season.
• 2-1 in three-game series at Texas Tech (May 14-15, 2010)
• 3-0 in three-game series vs. Oklahoma State (May 21-23, 2010)
• 2-1 in three-game series vs. Oral Roberts (Feb. 18-20, 2011)
• 2-1 in three-game series at Georgia (Feb. 25-27, 2011)
• 2-1 in three games at Houston College Classic (March 4-6, 2011)
• 4-0 in four-game series vs. Louisiana Tech (March 10-13, 2011)
• 1-2 in three-game series vs. Texas Tech (March 18-20, 2011)
• 2-1 in three-game series vs. Kansas State (March 25-27, 2011)
• 1-2 in three-game series at Kansas (April 1-3, 2011)
• 1-2 in three-game split-series vs. No. 8 Texas (April 8-10, 2011)
• 1-2 in three-game split-series vs. No. 5 Texas A&M (April 15-17, 2011)
• 1-2 in three-game series vs. Missouri (April 21-23, 2011)
• 2-1 in three-game series at Nebraska (April 29-May 1, 2011)
• 2-1 in three-game series at No. 19 Oklahoma State (May 13-15, 2011)
• 2-1 in three-game series vs. No. 13 Oklahoma (May 19-21, 2011)
EXTRA SPECIAL
Despite going 1-5 in extra-inning games in 2010, Baylor is 24-16 in such games since the start of the 2003 season. Baylor was 4-1 in extra-inning games in 2009, 1-3 in 2008, 2-1 in 2007, 0-1 in 2006, 6-1 in 2005, 1-0 in 2004 and 5-1 in 2003. Baylor is 4-3 in extras so far in 2011.
The Bears won all four regular season games that went to extra innings in 2009, but fell to No. 2 national seed LSU 3-2 in 10 innings in the second game of the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional.
Seven of the 24 wins over the past eight seasons have come on an opponent's home field (Arizona twice, Arizona State, Texas, Vanderbilt and UT Arlington twice). Four of the 24 wins were either neutral-site games or games at Baylor Ballpark in which the Bears were the visitor. Four of the 24 wins have come in postseason play, including two at the Big 12 Tournament and one at the College World Series.
