HUTCHINSON, Kan. - Baylor men's golf, ranked 43rd by Golfstat, is in eighth place Monday after two rounds of the 2011 Big 12 Men's Golf Championship at Prairie Dunes Country Club. The Bears carded a two-round tally of 35-over 595 on the par-70 course.

Top-ranked Oklahoma State holds a three-stroke lead over the field, followed by No. 14 Texas, No. 28 Oklahoma, No. 7 Texas A&M and No. 18 Texas Tech. No team posted sub-par rounds Monday. Three players shot par or better, including co-leaders and Oklahoma State teammates Morgan Hoffmann and Kevin Tway, who are tied at 1-under 139. Oklahoma's Ryan Sirman is third at even-par 140.

"This wasn't the way we wanted to start the Big 12 Championship," head coach Greg Priest said. "Prairie Dunes is a hard golf course by itself and, with the rain, wind and cold, it played much tougher."

Senior Cody Paladino, who carded a team-low 71 in the first round, is Baylor's top performer through 36 holes. The Kensington, Conn., native is tied for 18th overall at 7-over-par 147. He was even through 14 holes, but a bogey on No. 6 helped him finish the first round at 1-over-par.

Joakim Mikkelsen, who has top-five finishes in three of his last five tournaments, is tied for 25th with an 8-over-par 148 score. Like Paladino, Mikkelsen was even-par for the majority of the first round, but he bogeyed three of his final five holes to finish at 73 after 18 holes.

"The good thing is we have 36 more holes to play and it doesn't look like a lot of teams played exceptionally well Monday," Priest said. "We have to play well Tuesday in order to get ourselves in good position to attack the top of the leaderboard."

After recording Baylor's low second-round score, Ryan O'Rear is tied for 31st at 9-over-par 149. Sophomore Jerry Ruiz is tied for 38th at 11-over-par 151, while senior Payne Gniewek is 58th at 19-over-par 159.

The third round of the 2011 Big 12 Men's Golf Championship will tee off Tuesday. Grouped with seventh-place Kansas and ninth-place Colorado, Baylor will begin the third round from the No. 10 tee at 8 a.m. CDT.
