IRVING, Texas - Four Baylor women's golfers were named to the 2011 Academic All-Big 12 Women's Golf Team, the league office announced Tuesday. Baylor's four honors are tied for the most in program history; the Lady Bears also placed four on the Academic All-Big 12 teams in 2000, 2002 and 2009.
Baylor increases its total to 37 Academic All-Big 12 selections under 17th-year head coach Sylvia Ferdon, including 25 first-team honorees.
Seniors Kristen Hendrix and Morgan Chambers represented Baylor on the first team, while junior Jaclyn Jansen and senior Jordan Rhodes were named to the second team. Hendrix collected first-team honors for the third time. The MBA/accounting major from Houston, Texas, has played in seven total rounds this season, posting a 79.71 scoring average. Chambers, a double major in health science studies and pre-med from Purcell, Okla., is a three-time NGCA Academic Scholar-Athlete and has 78.69 scoring average in 16 rounds.
For the third consecutive season, Jansen was named second-team Academic All-Big 12. Jansen ranks second on the team in scoring average (75.61), score vs. par (3.68) and rounds of par or better (five). She is one of two Lady Bears with two top-10 finishes this season. The Effingham, Ill., junior, who is majoring in general studies, also set a program 18-hole low with a first-round 65 at the Price's "Give 'Em Five" Intercollegiate in October.
Rhodes was named to the second team for the second time in her career. The San Antonio, Texas, native is a double major in marketing and entrepreneurship and has played in each of Baylor's nine tournaments this season. She ranks fourth on the team with a 78.04 scoring average through 28 rounds.
Nominated by each institution's director of student-athlete support services, the men's golf academic all-league squad consisted of 26 first team members combined with 15 on the second team, while the women had 32 first team recipients and seven student-athletes on the second team. First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, and the second team are those who have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team's scheduled contests.
