UNLV Spring Invitational Results

BOULDER CITY, Nev. - After taking an early lead, the Baylor women's golf team is in a three-way tie for eighth place Monday through 18 holes at the UNLV Spring Invitational.

The Lady Bears were unable to overcome big numbers on the back nine as Baylor committed four double-bogeys along with one triple-bogey. Baylor, Ball State and Oregon State all sit at 13-over 301 and are only four shots out of the top five. BYU owns a two-stroke lead at 8-under 280, followed by No. 24 Oklahoma at 6-under 282, No. 25 Pepperdine at 3-under 295 and host No. 42 UNLV at 8-over 296.

BYU's Kelsey Vines is atop the individual leaderboard at 6-under 66, one stroke ahead of Oklahoma's Ellen Mueller, who's in second place at 5-under 67.

At one point during Monday's first round, Baylor freshman Kaylin Terry led the field by a pair of strokes after carding three birdies over a six-hole span. Back-to-back bogeys tripped up Terry as she is tied for 21st with a career-low 73.

Lene Hafsten-Morch is tied for 14th after an even-par 72 in the first round. Hafsten-Morch was even through 12 holes until a double-bogey on No. 4 set her back to 2-over-par. Birdies on No. 5 and No. 9 pushed her back to even-par for the day.

Seniors Jordan Rhodes and Kristen Hendrix are tied for 43rd at 5-over 77. Monday's first round marked the first appearance for Hendrix, competing as an individual, since the 2008 Big 12 Championship.

Baylor's leading scorer entering the week, Chelsey Cothran, is tied for 60th overall after shooting 7-over 79. Cothran was even through nine holes, but opened the back nine with two double-bogeys, a triple-bogey and a bogey to finish at 7-over-par. Jaclyn Jansen, Baylor's second-leading scorer, shot 9-over 81 to tie for 68th.

The second round of the UNLV Spring Invitational will tee off Tuesday at Boulder Creek Golf Club. Live scoring will be available at www.Golfstat.com.
