FRESNO, Calif. - The No. 8 Baylor Equestrian team ended day two of the Best of the West Tournament with a 7-5 win over TCU and a 6-5 win over South Carolina on Sunday at the Student Horse Center. These two wins, combined with Saturday's victory over Fresno State, resulted in the Bears winning the Best of the West Tournament.
Baylor began the day with a 6-5 win over South Carolina. The Bears got off to a strong start with a 2-0 victory in Equitation on the Flat. Lisa Goldman (60) and Kara Fergusson (79) each scored points Baylor. Fergusson was also awarded MVP honors.
The Bears continued to build their lead with a 2-1 win in Equitation over Fences. Lisa Goldman (78) and Kara Fergusson (84) earned a pair of points for Baylor. Fergusson was again honored as MVP and resulted in Baylor having a 4-1 lead through half of the events.
The Gamecocks attempted a comeback, with a 3-0 victory in Horsemanship.
Baylor was able to hold off the comeback attempt with a 2-1 win in the Reining competition. Olivia Roger's score of 70.5 was enough to earn her MVP honors. Amber Mooney (67) also scored for the Bears and resulted in a 6-5 victory over South Carolina.
The second half of Sunday's competition resulted in Baylor defeating TCU 7-5. The Bears got off to a strong start, winning Equitation on the Flat 2-1. Taylor Brown (63) and Lisa Goldman (84) earned a pair of points for Baylor. Goldman was also awarded with MVP honors.
The Horned Frogs defeated Baylor in Equitation over Fences, 2-1. Lisa Goldman (75) earned the lone point for the Bears and resulted in a 3-3 tie through half of the events.
Baylor quickly regained the lead, winning Horsemanship 2-1. Megan Murphy's score of 72.5 was enough to earn her MVP honors. Ashley Garza (71.5) also earned a point for Baylor.
The Bears ended the day's competition with a 2-1 victory in Reining. Katie Buss (67.5) and Amber Mooney (68) each earned points for Baylor and resulted in the Bears defeating the Horned Frogs 7-5.
The Baylor Equestrian team will next be in action March 26 as they face SMU in Dallas, Texas.
