ATHENS, Ga. - Logan Verrett didn't allow a run until the seventh inning, and Baylor's offense stole its most bases in a game since 2006 as the 16th-ranked Bears knocked off Georgia, 4-2, on Friday night at Foley Field.

Verrett faced just three batters over the minimum in his first six innings of work, but his night ended in the seventh after he issued a leadoff walk and gave up a two-run homer to Kyle Farmer. The Bears still led 3-2, and Trae Davis and Brooks Pinckard combined to retire the next nine batters in order to close the game.

Verrett (1-1) earned the win after allowing two runs on five hits with two walks and six strikeouts in 6.0 innings. Pinckard retired the side in order in the ninth to record the 14th save of his career, moving him into sole possession of fifth place on Baylor's career saves list.

Georgia (1-4) nearly scored the first run of the game in the third inning when the Bulldogs had three consecutive two-out singles. However, Zach Cone's single to right field was fielded by Cal Towey, who made a perfect throw to the plate to cut down Levi Hyams and end the threat.

Baylor (3-2) broke the scoreless tie in the fifth when Pinckard reached on a one-out single, stole his second base of the game, moved to third on Logan Vick's single and scored on a squeeze bunt by Joey Hainsfurther. Max Muncy followed with a RBI single to stretch Baylor's lead to 2-0.

The Bears stole at least one base in five consecutive innings and finished the night 7-for-7 on stolen bases attempted. Pinckard and Towey had two apiece, while Dan Evatt, Landis Ware and Jake Miller each had one.

Davis came on in relief of Verrett with no outs in the seventh. He retired six consecutive batters to send the game to the ninth, when Pinckard moved from center field to the mound to retire the final three in order.

Baylor added an insurance run in the top of the ninth to extend its lead to 4-2. Muncy singled with two outs for his third hit of the game, Josh Turley moved him to third with a pinch-hit single and Muncy came around to score on a wild pitch.

Muncy finished 3-for-4 with a run and one RBI, while Pinckard went 2-for-4, stole two bases and scored a run. The Bulldogs had five players with one hit apiece, including Jonathan Hester who had a double in the third for Georgia's only extra-base hit other than Farmer's homer.

Michael Palazzone (0-1) took the loss after allowing two runs on seven hits with six strikeouts in 5.0 innings. Georgia relievers combined to add six more strikeouts to total 12 on the day, the most times Baylor has struck out this season.

Vick made five catches in the final three innings, including three highlight-reel grabs. He made a leaping catch on the warning track in the seventh to rob a double, a diving catch on a sharp liner in the eighth and the first out of the ninth came when he robbed a home run with a leaping catch at the wall.

Baylor and Georgia return to action with the second game of a three-game set at 1 p.m. CST Saturday. The Bears plan to start RHP Jon Ringenberg against UGA RHP Ben Cornwell.
