Head Coach Steve Smith

On the pitching in tonight's game:
"I thought the arms of both sides threw well today. This was a prime example of what effect the bat has on the game this year. I think a year ago we would probably still be playing right now and it would probably be in the sixth inning and probably a 7-6 game. The hitters hit the ball well but the fly balls are not going to go like they used to. And that is an adjustment they are going to have to make."

On what it will take to hit homeruns with the new bats:
"If you want to hit fly balls out of the park now you are going to have to be a man. You are going to have to be a big man. It is just not going to happen every time you hit one up in the air with the wind blowing. The hitters will adjust, and the same thing happened to them (TCU) but again you are going to have to really be a man if you are going to hit fly balls out. The ones that are going to go are going to still be rising on the way out of the park."

On Baylor's pitching:
"We got a lot of things done, from a pitching standpoint today, in terms of getting guys out there and still had a chance to win the game. A lot of times you are doing this kind of thing and it's almost like meaningless, the game is not a game, but this was very much a game and for Kuntz to have to face a first and third and he handled it okay. That is great experience for him. You are not going to win them all and we are growing and working hard to get better. Turley pitched pretty well, and not that he made a bunch of bad pitches, but the walk hurt him and they got the timely hit."

Sophomore LHP Josh Turley

On his performance:
"I felt fine for the most part. The first three innings I was throwing pretty well, a few hits here and there. As far as the 4th inning, I didn't really feel wild at all. I just started leaving a few balls up, which I don't tend to do very often. There were a few instances where I stayed on the outside corner and I knew in my mind that's not where I wanted to go. I just didn't get the balls in where I wanted to go. Really it was just that one bad inning. I can't really blame the whole game on that but looking back at the game, it was close with two good teams and that one mistake ended up costing us."

On facing leadoff hitters:
"Usually on the leadoff guy I will attack them a little more, throw them a little more fastballs and trying to get him to get himself out. (TCU's) leadoff hitters were really disciplined and they hit the ball well. I feel just as comfortable from the stretch as I do from the windup. I have confidence in our defense to make plays. We've got solid infielders, solid outfielders, solid catchers. It's not really an issue when I'm thinking about, `Oh, what am I going to do now?' because I still have confidence in our team and what we can do. A 2-0 ballgame happens sometimes."

Freshman LHP Brad Kuntz

On being a strikeout pitcher:
"I guess I am, but I don't really try to be. That's just kind of how it works out. It's definitely not a bad thing."

On the team learning from the loss:
"(Max) Muncy had two bombs. We had some great hits, but it just kind of ended with some bad luck. Just an unlucky day. There was some good pitching from both sides. It was just a great game to watch."
