Central District Invitational Results
PARRISH, Fla. - The No. 54-ranked Baylor women's golf team is in 14th place after shooting 41-over (303-304=617) through two rounds Monday of the Central District Invitational at River Wilderness Country Club.
Through 36 holes, the first- and fourth-place teams are separated by only four strokes. No. 4 LSU owns a one-stroke lead at 7-over, followed by No. 42 Texas A&M in second place at 8-over. No. 16 Iowa State is third overall at 9-over, while No. 32 TCU is in fourth at 11-over. No. 18 Michigan State, which is hosting the 15-team event, is tied with Michigan for seventh.
"I was pleased with the way we played the first round, but a couple of big numbers put us in the middle of the pack early on," assistant coach Jordan Cox said.
Chelsey Cothran carded Baylor's best individual round Monday with a first-round 73. Cothran, who has posted five straight top-25 finishes, is tied for 22nd overall at 6-over (73-77=150). Jaclyn Jansen is four strokes behind Cothran in a tie for 47th at 10-over (76-78=154).
"I'm extra proud of the way Chelsey (Cothran) played," Cox said. "She played well last week and she picked it up Monday where she left off."
Lene Hafsten-Morch shot 12-over (76-80=156) to finish the first day tied for 53rd. After a triple-bogey on the par-4 No. 14, Hafsten-Morch carded an eagle on the par-15 No. 15. Fellow seniors Morgan Chambers and Jordan Rhodes are tied for 66th and 71st, respectively.
"Fatigue wasn't a factor at all in the second round," Cox said. "We just didn't play particularly well and we never really got off to a good start in the afternoon. There are some good things to build on from the morning round."
The final round of the Central District Invitational will tee off at 7 a.m. CST Tuesday at River Wilderness CC. Live scoring will be available at www.Golfstat.com.
