WACO, Texas - Baylor baseball ranked 22nd nationally in total home attendance and 24th nationally in average home attendance during the 2010 season, according to figures released Thursday by the NCAA. Baylor Ballpark, which opened in 1999, has seen its attendance rank in the nation's top 25 in each of its 12 seasons.
Baylor's home attendance total of 89,804 ranked 22nd in the nation and third in the Big 12, while the average home attendance of 2,641 ranked 24th nationally and fourth in the conference.
The Ballpark also welcomed its millionth fan during the 2010 QTI Apparel Opening Weekend Classic, and heading into the 2011 season, a total of 1,082,847 fans have watched the Bears play at Baylor Ballpark.
The Bears are one of only 10 programs nationally to draw at least 80,000 fans in each of the last 11 seasons, joining Alabama, Clemson, LSU, Mississippi State, South Carolina, Texas, Texas A&M and Wichita State.
LSU claimed the top spot in the rankings by an average of more than 2,900 fans per game. The Tigers drew 394,900 fans over 37 dates, more than 100,000 more than Arkansas, which ranked second at 292,734.
Baylor posted a 26-10 record at Baylor Ballpark in 2010, bringing the Bears' all-time record at the facility to 284-114 (.714). Baylor has won 22 of its last 26 games at Baylor Ballpark and holds a 10-game winning streak in non-conference home games. The last time Baylor lost a non-conference home game was March 5, when Oral Roberts took the opener of a four-game series before the Bears rebounded to win each of the final three games.
