Complete ITA All-Academic List

WACO, Texas - Baylor's six-time defending Big 12 champion women's tennis team was recognized for its success in the classroom, being named an ITA All-Academic team by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association recently.

The award marks the second consecutive season that head coach Joey Scrivano's club has been recognized as one of the top academic programs in the nation, as only teams with a cumulative team grade-point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale) are eligible for the honor.

"It is really a tribute to how hard our team works off the court," head coach Joey Scrivano said. "These young women are the epitome of a student-athlete. I am really proud of them, and its great to see them rewarded for their hard work."

The women's list includes 92 Division I programs, while Baylor is one of only two top-five teams and four top-10 teams to make the list. The fourth-ranked Lady Bears are the highest-rated team in the nation to earn the honor, and are one of only three Big 12 teams, along with Kansas and Texas Tech to make the grade.

In addition to the team honor, senior Taylor Ormond and graduate Hannah Brandt each earned accolades as ITA Scholar-Athletes. Ormond claims the honor for the second consecutive season, becoming the fourth player in BU history to earn the award multiple times.

The students had to be a varsity letterwinner, had to have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year and had to have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters (including freshman through senior year).

The women's tennis team begins its fall tournament schedule on Sept. 24-26 at the Roberta Allison Fall Classic in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
