WACO- Baylor (26-23, 6-12) could only register two hits, as No. 12 Texas' Blaire Luna struck out 12 en route to a 6-0 Longhorn (41-10, 14-2) victory on Thursday night at Getterman Stadium. The crowd of 1,208 was the largest home crowd of the season for BU and ranked 11th on the all-time list.
"We still have two regular season games left," head coach Glenn Moore said. "This team won't quit and we are going to keep coming out and giving teams our best shot."
The Lady Bears' two hits came from Kayce Walker and Nicole Wesley on back-to-back hits in the sixth. Courtney Repka took the loss after allowing eight hits, six runs, walking two and striking out three in 7.0 innings.
Baylor had runners at second and third with two outs in the second, as Sydney Wilson and Jordan Vannatta each walked and advanced on a passed ball, however, Kathy Shelton grounded out to second to end the threat.
Repka had allowed just one baserunner through 3.1 innings, until Lexy Bennett laced a double to left field with one out in the fourth. Amy Hooks then singled through the left side, and a groundout to short brought the first run in and Loryn Johnson hit a two-out RBI-single to center for a 2-0 lead.
The Longhorns added two more in the fifth, as Bennett hit an RBI-double to left, and Hooks knocked a sac fly to right for a 4-0 advantage.
Despite not having a hit on the board, the Lady Bears threatened again in the fifth, as Freeland walked to lead off the inning and advanced to second on a sac bunt from Jordan Vannatta. Freeland advanced to third on a wild pitch with two outs, but Megan Turk struck out swinging to end the inning.
Texas put another run on the board with two outs in the sixth when Shelby Savony hit her fifth pinch hit home run of the year over left field for a 5-0 lead.
Baylor got its first two hits of the game to lead off the sixth, as Walker singled up the middle and advanced to second on a N. Wesley base hit to left. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch, but a strikeout and a pop fly to right ended another BU threat.
Bennett added one more RBI in the seventh on a sac fly to right center, making it 6-0.
The Lady Bears will wrap up regular season play at home with a doubleheader on Saturday against Houston beginning at 5:00 p.m. at Getterman Stadium.
