Recap | Box Score

Head Coach Steve Smith

On the performance of Craig Fritsch:
"He was good from the get go. He kept the ball down which was particularly important this weekend. He battled out of some stuff. Oklahoma State had a couple of opportunities to put some runs on the board, which would have been big, but he was able to strand some runners. He was able to compete really well. It was probably the best that I've seen him throw in a starting role, ever. I thought he was really good."

On the teams play as of late
"We've played pretty solid even in losses. We have had our share of one-run losses, but we have played pretty consistent. I think the key to the whole things has been our starting pitching. I am proud of this club because I think we maybe have overachieved a little bit offensively. The veteran pitchers who have had so much expected of them since they got here were finally able to put a year together that they can be proud of."

On the importance of a sweep heading into the Big 12 Championship:
"I think it's big-time. I think we have won five Big 12 series. We just didn't get a win or two and didn't get to play two of the (games at Oklahoma). Everybody had that happen. There are two things that happened throughout the season that affected us. One is the series at OU and losing two games (due to weather), particularly the one in which you are leading. The other is having to face Kansas' closer for the final six innings of a 14 inning game on Sunday and then he has Tommy John surgery the next week and nobody else has to deal with him the rest of the season. I think we have put ourselves in pretty decent shape going into our tournament. Our RPI is good, so let's go play."

Junior RHP Craig Fritsch:

On his performance:
"Thinking back this game sounds like (my best start). Things were working well and I was able to go through quite a few innings to get outs for our team."

On what was working for him on the mound:
"I was able to locate my fastball outside pretty well. I had every pitch working but if I got into trouble I was able to dot outside so that definitely helped me."

On the sweep:
"(The sweep) is awesome. It is a great feeling being able to go into the Big 12 Championship winning these games. I really think we are playing some of our best baseball right now."

Freshman RF Cal Towey

On jumping out to a two-run lead:
"It is always great playing with a lead. It was good that we jumped out to a 2-0 lead early and we were pushing for more runs. It was fun."

On the sweep:
"We just wanted to come out and sweep and to just play as clean of a game as we can. We wanted to end up in sixth place and that's where we ended up. (Coming into this weekend) we thought we were fighting for eighth place but we ended up in sixth."

On the clubhouse atmosphere and his play as of late:
"We are having a ton of fun right now. The first part of the season was awful. I'm not sure that I could have done any worse besides not get that one hit. It has felt great the last half of the season. I have just been having fun, relaxing and just swinging. Whatever happens, happens."
