Notes: Brooks Pinckard (five games) and Cal Towey (four games) both extended hitting streaks ... Logan Vick drew his 49th walk of the season, moving him into a four-way tie with Jeremy Dodson (1998), Jon Topolski (1998) and Jason Jennings (1999) for the fourth-best single-season total in program history ... Baylor is now 40-21 in the all-time series with Dallas Baptist, including a 29-15 mark in games played in Waco and an 11-7 record during the Steve Smith era. |

WACO, Texas - Baylor jumped out an early lead with five runs in the first three innings, and Willie Kempf held Dallas Baptist to one run in 5.0 innings of work to guide the Bears to a 6-2 win on Tuesday night at Baylor Ballpark.
Four different Baylor (28-21) relievers tossed an inning each to close out the win. Dallas Baptist (28-24) outfielder Ryan Enos connected on a solo homer in the eighth, but that's all the offense the Patriots could manage against the Bears' bullpen.
Kempf (6-2) notched his team-leading sixth win of the season by holding DBU to one run on six hits with one walk and four strikeouts in 5.0 innings. It's the second time Kempf has notched six wins in a season during his four years at Baylor, and it also gave him career win No. 19 - seven more than any other pitcher on the Baylor staff.
"Willie threw an inning on Sunday, but he is the most durable guy I've got, which is why I started him in this game," head coach Steve Smith said. "He is the one guy that I could leave out there for (five innings) and he would be fine."
The Bears did most of their damage early in the game. Logan Vick and Brooks Pinckard led off the first inning with walks, and Cal Towey brought them both around to score with a two-run single.
Dallas Baptist cut its deficit in half with Chris Haney's two-out RBI double that landed just past the outstretched glove of Pinckard in left-center in the second, but Baylor got that run back in the bottom half of the inning when Vick doubled, took third on an error and scored when Pinckard reached on an infield single.
The Bears extended their lead to 5-1 on RBI singles from Max Muncy and Landis Ware in the third, chasing DBU starter Will Lane from the game. Lane (3-5) took the loss after allowing five runs on seven hits in 2.2 innings.
Baylor put its final run on the board in the fifth when Josh Ludy and Ware led off with singles and two outs later Joey Hainsfurther slapped a RBI single to right, giving the Bears a 6-1 lead.
Kevin Winter worked a scoreless sixth inning, Kolt Browder pitched around a leadoff walk in a scoreless seventh, Hainsfurther struck out two and allowed one run in the eighth, and Pinckard stranded two runners a leadoff double and a walk in the ninth.
Towey finished 3-for-4 with a walk, a run and two RBI, raising his batting average to .307. The redshirt freshman is hitting .431 (22-for-51) since breaking out of a slump on April 7, and he has posted multi-hit games in four straight.
Hainsfurther, Muncy and Ware each had two hits and one RBI for the Bears, while Enos went 2-for-3 with a home run and an intentional walk for DBU.
Baylor closes out the regular season when it hosts a three-game series against Oklahoma State this weekend. Friday's first pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CDT, while Saturday's game will be played at 3 p.m. and Sunday's series finale is slated for 1 p.m.
