The Baylor softball team (21-13) dropped a pair of games to North Texas (17-12) falling 11-3 in game one and 5-3 in game two Wednesday night at Getterman Stadium.
Game One
The Lady Bears fell behind 11-0 after three innings, as six runs were scored with two outs in the third inning to put the game away for the Mean Green.
Nicole Wesley went 3-for-3 with two runs, while Alicia Vasquez (2-2) absorbed the loss, allowing 17 hits, 11 earned runs and three walks over 5.0 innings.
North Texas' six-run third featured six extra-base hits, including a triple, three doubles and a pair of home runs.
Baylor got on the board in the bottom of the inning, as Tiffany and Nicole Wesley each singled to lead off the third. N. Wesley then stole second, and an errant throw allowed T. Wesley to come home. Kayce Walker delivered an RBI-single with one out that scored N. Wesley, making it 11-2.
The Lady Bears added one more in the fourth, again scoring when pinch runner Mallory Craig stole second and a poor throw from the catcher allowed N. Wesley to score from third.
Game Two
Baylor held a 3-2 lead with two outs in the top of the seventh, but back-to-back doubles scored three runs to give North Texas the 5-3 win. BU stranded nine runners during the game.
Tiffany Wesley went 3-for-3 with two runs and an RBI, while Courtney Repka (14-8) got the loss, allowing seven hits, five runs, two earned, three walks and eight strikeouts in the complete-game effort.
The Lady Bears took the lead in the bottom of the third, as Jordan Vannatta's sac fly scored Tiffany Wesley for a 1-0 lead, but a strikeout ended any further threat with runners at second and third.
The BU lead didn't last long, as Courtney Bradshaw's two-run homer in the fourth gave North Texas a 2-1 advantage.
Baylor grabbed the lead back in the bottom of the fifth, when Sydney Wilson led off with a single and scored on Tiffany Wesley's second triple of the season. With one out and the bases loaded, Bree Hanafin hit a grounder to short, but the throw home was dropped by the catcher, allowing T. Wesley to score for the 3-2 lead. The Lady Bears would leave the bases loaded, as a strikeout and groundout ended the inning.
Monica Hirsch led off the seventh by reaching on an error by the first baseman. Following a double that put both players in scoring position, Courtney Repka got a pair of outs, but a two-RBI by Mallory Cantler double put UNT ahead by one. Amber Miller followed with a double of her own, and North Texas' lead grew to two.
BU couldn't muster a comeback in the seventh, going in order.
Baylor will return to conference action on Saturday, April 10, hosting Kansas beginning at 2:00 p.m. Saturday will be Power In Pink Day, and a silent auction will be held for fans to get one of the pink, game-worn jerseys the Lady Bears will be wearing.
