Complete Academic All-Big 12 Release (Big12Sports.com)
IRVING, Texas - Three Baylor women's golfers were named to the 2010 Academic All-Big 12 Women's Golf Team, the league office announced Tuesday. The Colorado and Kansas women's squads placed a league-leading five student-athletes each on the first and second teams.
Sophomore Chelsey Cothran and senior Kristen Hendrix represented Baylor on the first team, while sophomore Jaclyn Jansen was named to the second team for the second straight season. Cothran, a pre-business major from Springdale, Ark., earned Academic All-Big 12 honors for the first time. The sophomore has played in all 10 tournaments and ranks second on the team with a 75.18 stroke average and five top-15 finishes. Cothran also has top-10 finishes to her credit this spring - tied for sixth at the UCF Challenge and tied for seventh at Baylor Spring Invitational.
A six-time Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll recipient, Hendrix has sat out the last two seasons because of a shoulder injury. She has played in 12 career events and has posted an 80.79 stroke average in 34 rounds. The Houston, Texas, native is a senior academically and majoring in accounting.
For the second consecutive season, Jansen was named second-team Academic All-Big 12. The sophomore from Effingham, Ill., ranks third on the team with a 75.32 stroke average. Jansen, who is a double-major in health science studies and pre-physical therapy, posted her career-first college victory last week at the Baylor Spring Invitational.
Baylor increases it total to 33 Academic All-Big 12 selections under 16th-year head coach Sylvia Ferdon, including 23 first-team honorees.
Nominated by each institution's director of student-athlete support services and the media relations offices, the women's golf academic all-league squad is comprised of 24 first-team members combined with six on the second team. First-team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, and the second-team are those who have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of her team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
