LINCOLN, Neb. - Baylor (23-17, 3-6) had a 1-0 lead, but five-straight runs from Nebraska (26-18, 5-4) was too much to overcome as the Lady Bears fell 5-3 Saturday afternoon at Bowlin Stadium in Lincoln. Baylor has dropped three-straight in conference play.

"I am proud of the girls because we fought hard to the end and didn't give up," head coach Glenn Moore said. "We had an opportunity to win but we just aren't catching the breaks right now."

Courtney Repka (15-11) took the loss, going 4.0 innings, allowing eight hits, five runs, one walk and three strikeouts. Kayce Walker paced the offense, going 2-for-2.

The Lady Bears took an early lead in the third, as Megan Turk led off the inning with a walk and was pinch run for by Mallory Craig. KJ Freeland sacrificed Craig to second and a single from Kathy Shelton got Craig to third. Nicole Wesley then hit a sac fly to left that scored Craig for the 1-0 lead.

Nebraska answered with three runs in the bottom half of the third. Ashley Guile ripped an RBI-single to right center, and two batters later, Brooke Thomason belted a two-run home run over right center to make it 3-0.

The Huskers tacked on two more in the fourth, all with two outs. Nikki Haget hit an RBI-single to right that was nearly caught on a diving attempt by Walker, and Guile then hit a ball back towards Repka that bounced off her glove and rolled towards third, but the throw was not in time, scoring the runner from third.

Alicia Vasquez came on in relief for BU and shut down the Huskers, throwing two perfect innings and striking out one.

Baylor put runners at first and second with two outs in the fifth, but a strikeout from Jordan Vannatta ended the inning.

The Lady Bears cut the Nebraska lead in half in the sixth, with Courtney Nieten drawing a leadoff walk. Dani Leal and Walker hit back-to-back singles, and Bree Hanafin laced a single to left field to score pinch runner, Sydney Wilson from third. Turk then grounded into a fielder's choice that scored Leal to cut the deficit to two. With one out, a pop up from pinch hitter, Kelsi Kettler landed in the infield, but Hanafin was called for interference for the second out. With two outs and runners at first and second, Shelton got called out on strikes to end the rally.

The Lady Bears went in order in the seventh, and Ashley Hagemann picked up her fifth save of the season.

Baylor will wrap up the series with Nebraska on Sunday at Noon. The game can be heard live on baylorbears.com.
