Quotes Head Coach Steve Smith
On the Kansas State pitching:
"They pitched it really, really well. Their Friday night guy was really good and then they went to (Thomas) Rooke very early in the game. That is as good as it is going to get and then they finished with their closer. We saw the three best guys they have got and obviously they were very good."
On his team's pitching:
"I thought we hung in there extremely well. Clearly, Shawn (Tolleson) wasn't very good tonight and they got four on us early. Craig Fritsch was very good again. I thought Colt (Browder) was ok. Colt is still learning how to pitch some, but his stuff is really good. We were able to squeeze an inning out of Kevin Winter."
On the outlook for the rest of the weekend:
"This is a best two out of three. You don't get a ring tonight. We played a solid game. We just couldn't get timely hitting tonight. We played a good club in a place that is pretty excited about them winning. "
On his team's defensive play:
"Brooks' play was very critical at the time. That is going to put the game out of reach, if he doesn't make that play. We had one go over our head early in the ball game. We said before the game, the park was going to play big with a little bit of a breeze blowing in, but they swung the bat good off of Shawn. They drove balls off of him. We got caught shallow in centerfield and they drove one over our head out there, but other than that we played a solid game."
On his team's at-bats:
"I thought Logan's at-bat when Rooke came in the game first and second nobody out was really good. He gets behind 0-2 works the count. He (Rooke) throws him a left-on-left 3-2 changeup and he capped it and they were able to turn two out of it. Even Brooks hit the ball sharp behind him. He just hit it right at the first baseman. They have got a good club. They played well. They have a great, great crowd here tonight. Tonight this place was packed. They were lively. They are excited. I congratulate them."
