AUSTIN, Texas - A pair of Texas home runs scored five of the eight Texas runs as Baylor (23-16, 3-5) fell to No. 14 Texas (35-9, 8-1) 8-0 Wednesday night at McCombs Field in Austin. The loss was the first for Baylor in Austin since March 29, 2006.
Baylor recorded two hits on the day, one from Nicole Wesley and one from Kayce Walker.
Courtney Repka (15-10) took the loss, going 3.2 innings, allowing five hits, seven runs, six earned and two strikeouts..
Baylor had an opportunity in the second, as Jordan Vannatta and Kayce Walker collected back-to-back walks with one out. A sac bunt from Megan Turk put runners in scoring position, but a strikeout from pinch hitter Sydney Wilson ended the threat.
Texas busted it open in the third as Courtney Craig launched a one-out, two-run home run to right center for a 2-0 lead. Following a walk, Lexy Bennet lined out to center, but an errant throw from center trying to double off Hoagland got into the dugout as she was headed to second, allowing her to reach third. Another walk led to a single that scored Hoagland, but an error in left allowed Hooks to score from first for a 4-0 lead.
The Longhorns did damage with the long ball again, as Taylor Hoagland launched a two-out, three-run home run to make it 7-0.
Texas loaded the bases off reliever Alicia Vasquez in the fifth, and Raygan Feight singled to left with one out to end the game 8-0.
Baylor will remain on the road and head to Lincoln, Neb. to take on Nebraska in a weekend series beginning on Saturday, April 17 at 3:00 p.m.
