Recap | Box Score
Head Coach Steve Smith On scoring 18 runs:
"We needed to (have a good night at the plate). They jumped out on us pretty early and we needed to swing the bat. Clearly, they were down in their pitching, and we were as well. I feel like the guys that we were sending out there were more capable. We had more depth and our guys took advantage of it and swung the bat well."
On Logan Vick equaling the Freshman walk record:
"The thing about Logan that is really beyond his years is the fact that he swings at strikes and takes balls. Most guys they swing at balls and take strikes. He is pretty good at not doing that. Even tonight I thought that the last walk that he had - from the dugout, those pitches weren't down, so they must have been outside - (the pitches) looked like they were reasonable, but he is not chasing. He is staying on his feet and the umpire respected him."
On the weekend series against Kansas State:
"They all count the same. We have ourselves in the hunt right now to be in the upper half of the Big 12. We will have to keep doing what we have been doing. I was a little concerned today, more so than yesterday, about our pitching. (Jon) Ringenberg and (Trent) Blank are hopefully guys that we will need (this weekend) and they weren't very good today. That is concerning. (Josh) Turley wasn't very good yesterday. (Craig) Fritsch was lights out and Kolt Browder was pretty good. Our starters have to be good and we have to play good defense and hit. We can't win games out of the bullpen in the league."
Freshman 1B Max Muncy: On his performance at the plate:
"I had a real good night tonight. It felt good after having a bad weekend. Mostly it was important to go out and get the win and beat a team that we should beat like that."
On breaking the freshman homerun record:
"It felt great. I was trying not think about it but as soon as I hit it, I thought, yes, I just broke it. It felt good."
On the teams never say die mentality:
"We don't like to give up. We play hard all of the time. Whenever teams score early on us we just think that is their loss because they think they are getting ahead. We know that we are a better team late in the game. It just pumps us up to score more runs."
Sophomore 3B Joey Hainsfurther On his homerun:
"It was actually a curveball. I wasn't looking for a homerun obviously with two strikes on me. I just shortened up my swing and it happened for me. I am glad that it helped the team out. I knew that five runs wasn't going to win that game so that is not what we were worried about. We just knew that we had to stop the bleeding a little bit in order to give us a chance to get back into the ball game. I am glad that we came out with the win."
On fighting back from a 5-1 deficit:
"To be a good ballclub, you can't just pack it away as soon as you get down. That is what I think we kind of pride ourselves on this year is being able to come back and score a lot of runs. Our offense helped us out today and our pitching gave us a chance to win. That is everything that you can ask for."
