COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Baylor women's golf team is in ninth place through 36 holes Monday at the fourth annual Johnie Imes Invitational at The Club at Old Hawthorne.
Baylor finds itself in the middle of the pack after shooting 31-over (306-301=607), three strokes behind seventh-place Texas State and UALR and one stroke ahead of 10th-place Kansas. Three Big 12 schools are atop the leaderboard; Oklahoma State (293-286=579) leads the field by eight strokes. Colorado (298-289=587) is in second at 11-over , followed by Oklahoma (292-296=588) in third at 12-over.
"We struggled with making lots of little decisions on the golf course," head coach Sylvia Ferdon said. "Weather wasn't a factor at all Monday. We just struggled and there really is no excuse for it."
Only three golfers finished Monday under-par. Princeton's Kelly Shon fired back-to-back 70s to finish at 4-under 140. Oklahoma State's Courtney McKim and Colorado's Jessica Wallace are tied for second at 3-under 141.
Baylor junior Chelsey Cothran carded the Lady Bears' lone round of par or better Monday with a second-round even-par 72. Cothran is tied for 15th place at 4-over 148, while fellow junior Jaclyn Jansen is tied for 31st place at 8-over 152.
"We'll come out Tuesday and have to play better and make better decisions," Ferdon said. "This truly is an excellent golf course and we will have to learn from our mistakes in order to prepare for the Big 12 Championships next year."
Jordan Rhodes is in 38th place with a 36-hole score of 9-over (76-77=153), followed by Lene Hafsten-Morch in 45th at 10-over (78-76=154). True freshman Kaylin Terry, making her collegiate debut, is 70th at 17-over.
"Obviously, we'll need to eliminate some of our big numbers," Ferdon said. "With the blind shots and greens set behind bunkers, you can't see where you are going at times. So we will need to do a better job of reading those types of shots."
The final round of the fourth annual Johnie Imes Invitational will begin with an 8 a.m. CDT shotgun start Tuesday at The Club at Old Hawthorne. Live scoring will be available at www.golfstat.com.
