COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Baylor men's golf team is in ninth place Monday after two rounds at the Jack Nicklaus Invitational at the Scioto Country Club.
Baylor posted back-to-back rounds of 300 to finish the first 36 holes at 40-over. Arkansas leads the tournament field by two strokes at 18-over. Oklahoma State is second at 20-over, followed by Illinois in third at 21-over. Host Ohio State is in sixth place at 29-over.
"This will probably be the hardest golf course these guys will play," head coach Greg Priest said. "We need to clean up our scores. We haven't been able to finish strong this season.
"We will need to step it up during Tuesday's final round," Priest said.
Only four golfers carded sub-par rounds on the par-70 course Monday. Illinois' Luke Guthrie and Arkansas' Jamie Marshall are tied atop the leaderboard at even-par 140. Oklahoma State's Peter Uihlein and Illinois' Scott Langley are third at 1-over 151, while USC's T.J. Vogel is fifth at 2-over 142.
Joakim Mikkelsen is tied for 14th after shooting 7-over 147. Freshman Niclas Mansson, making his career-first start in the Baylor five-man lineup, is tied for 25th at 10-over 150. Lorenzo Scotto is one stroke behind Mansson in a 32nd-place tie at 11-over, while senior Payne Gniewek is tied for 36th at 12-over.
