WACO, Texas - Baylor baseball will host its second-annual Meet the Team dinner on Monday, Feb. 1 in the Galloway Suite at Floyd Casey Stadium. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. CST, and the festivities are scheduled to being at 7 p.m. There are a limited number of tickets on sale for $25. Former Bear and current Texas Ranger David Murphy will be the guest of honor. Murphy played at Baylor from 2001 through 2003, where he earned All-America honors after leading the nation with 121 hits during the 2003 season.
Murphy became the first Baylor position player to be drafted in the first round when the Boston Red Sox selected him with the 17th overall pick in 2003. He broke into the Major Leagues with the Red Sox in 2006, and in 2007 was traded to the Texas Rangers, where he's spent the past two seasons as a starter in the outfield.
Baylor returns 18 lettermen for the 2010 season, including five position starters and 10 pitchers. RHPs Shawn Tolleson (1-2, 4.50 ERA in 2009), Craig Fritsch (4-5, 5.09), Logan Verrett (7-1, 5.13), Willie Kempf (5-5, 5.22), and Jon Ringenberg (2-0, 5.70) all return after making at least five starts on the mound a season ago.
Raynor Campbell (.243, 8 HR, 31 RBI in 2009), Dan Evatt (.308, 7, 31), Joey Hainsfurther (.322, 1, 28) and Landis Ware (.272, 1, 10) all return on the infield, while Gregg Glime (.215, 3, 15) enters his fourth year as a Baylor backstop.
Baylor opens the 2010 season with QTI Apparel's Opening Weekend Classic Feb. 19-21 at Baylor Ballpark. The Bears will play both Georgia and Duke twice during the season's opening weekend.
