OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - The Baylor softball team had five players earn all-conference honors, led by senior Brette Reagan's fourth-consecutive nod. Joining Reagan on the first team is freshman Whitney Canion, junior Tiffany Wesley and freshman Kayce Walker, while senior Alex Colyer earned second-team accolades. In addition, Canion picked up the Big 12 Freshman of the Year and Pitcher of the Year honors.
Canion becomes the third Lady Bear in the last four years to earn Freshman of the Year, and the first to win Pitcher of the Year.
Baylor's four first-team selections tied for the second-most out of any school.
Reagan picked up her third-straight first-team selection. The Tomball, Texas, native started 34 games and hit .371 with seven doubles, eight home runs and 28 RBI despite missing 21 games with a torn ACL.
Canion finished up one of the best seasons in Baylor softball history, as the freshman lefty set new records in season strikeouts and most 10-plus strikeout games in a career. She finished 23-15 with a 1.80 ERA, registering 10 shutouts and 376 strikeouts. She not only led the league in strikeouts, but is third in the NCAA.
Wesley earned her first all-conference selection after batting .335 with career highs in RBI with 24 and home runs with 2. The Lady Bears' leadoff batter has been perfect in stolen bases, going 24-24 and has not made an error in left field this season.
Walker, who tore her ACL on April 22 against Texas, finished her freshman campaign with a team-leading .413 average to go with four doubles, two triples and 23 stolen bases. She finished second in the league in batting average and hits, and went errorless in right field throughout the year.
Colyer is wrapping up her finest season as a Lady Bear, as the senior is hitting .365 with 10 doubles, four home runs and 22 RBI. The first baseman is seventh in the Big 12 in batting average and third in hits with 61.
The All-Big 12 honors are selected by the league's head coaches, who are not allowed to vote for their own players.
