WACO - Three Baylor softball student-athletes were named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VI honors, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced Thursday. Alex Colyer and Tiffany Wesley were named to the first team, while Nicole Wesley earned second team honors.
Colyer and Tiffany Wesley will now be eligible for Academic All-America, as the Lady Bears have placed at least two players on the first team every year since 2005. It also marked the first time since 2005 that Baylor has had three student-athletes named to the squad.
Colyer, a senior from Houston, was named to the first team for the third-straight year. The first baseman, who holds a 3.90 GPA, is a pre-med major and is having the best season of her Lady Bear career, batting .365 with four home runs, 10 doubles and 22 RBI.
Tiffany Wesley, a junior from Baton Rouge, was named to the all-district team for the first time. She has a 3.98 GPA in pre-med and has played a perfect left field for Baylor this season. In addition, she is batting .335 with seven doubles, two triples, two home runs and 24 RBI.
Nicole Wesley, a junior from Baton Rouge, earned a spot on the team for the second consecutive season after being named to the first team in 2008. She currently holds a 3.94 GPA in neuroscience and has been been solid on the playing field, hitting .310 with four doubles and 14 RBI.
Baylor returns to action Saturday as it takes on Texas A&M in the first round of the Big 12 Championship. The game can be heard live on ESPN 1660 with first pitch at 11:30 a.m. and pregame beginning at 11:15.
