WACO - The Baylor softball team (39-20) proved that the third time was the charm, as Baylor claimed its third lead of the game in the fifth and never looked back, defeating Texas State (40-17) 7-4 on Saturday night at Getterman Stadium. The victory moves the Lady Bears one win away from their third regional title in program history.

"These girls continue to prove what a team they are," head coach Glenn Moore said. "We didn't play our best ball tonight, but we found a way to win and that's what this team has done all year."

Despite being outhit 12-5, Baylor capitalized on four Texas State errors in the game.

Baylor, which is now 15-0 when it scores in the first inning, got on the board when Brette Reagan sent a 2-0 pitch over the wall in center for a 1-0 lead. The home run was Reagan's ninth of the season, 41st of her career and first in NCAA Tournament play.

Texas State answered with a two-out, RBI-double by Allyce Rother in the bottom of the second to tie the game at one apiece.

The Lady Bears took the lead back in the top of the third, as Alex Colyer came to the plate with the bases loaded and two out, drawing a walk that gave BU a 2-1 advantage.

The Bobcats again answered as a Jenna Emery single scored Alex Newton to tie it up. Texas State took the lead the very next inning with a Taylor Hall RBI-single to center that scored one for a 3-2 lead.

Trailing for the first time in the game, Baylor responded in a big way with a four-run inning in the top of the fifth. KJ Freeland began the inning with a hit by pitch, and made it to third on a one-out single by Bree Hanafin. Reagan then came up and hit a sharp grounder that was bobbled by the third baseman, allowing Freeland to score to tie the game. With the bases juiced, Courtney Oberg hit a grounder to shortstop, who overthrew home and allowed Hanafin to come around for a one-run lead. Jordan Vannatta then came in to pinch hit with the bases loaded and one out, and took a full-count pitch up the middle for a two-RBI single that gave the Lady Bears a 6-3 lead.

Ryan Kos brought the Bobcats within two on a bunt single for an RBI in the bottom of the inning.

Tiffany Wesley answered that score for the Lady Bears in the top of the sixth as she doubled to right center with one out. The junior then stole third and advanced home when the throw went into left, giving BU a 7-4 lead.

Whitney Canion (26-16) battled for the win, giving up a season-high 12 hits, to go with four runs, three walks, seven strikeouts in 7.0 innings of work.

The Lady Bears will now await their opponent in the regional title game at 3:00 p.m. at Getterman Stadium. Pre game will begin at 2:45 p.m. as the broadcast can be heard on 104.9 FM.
