Waco Regional - Championship Central

WACO - The Baylor softball team will host its first regional since 2004 and will open regional play on Friday, May 15, at home against No. 25 Louisiana-Lafayette at 7:30 p.m. at Getterman Stadium in Waco. Northwestern, the national 12 seed, will be the one-seed and will open up against the fourth seeded Texas State at 5 p.m.

"I could not be happier to see a regional come back home to Waco," head coach Glenn Moore said. "To be able to play in front of our great fans will be an advantage, but this is clearly one of the toughest regionals and we have a lot of work ahead of us."

The Lady Bears, who earned an at-large bid to the championship, enter the weekend as the two-seed with a 37-20 overall mark after finishing in third in the Big 12. The Ragin' Cajuns, who earned an automatic bid by winning the Sun Belt post-season title, enter the championship with a 43-11 record after posting an 18-5 record in conference play. Donna Bourgeois leads in the circle with a 29-8 record and a 1.10 ERA as the ULL staff has an ERA of 0.95.

Northwestern, who earned an at-large bid to the championship after finishing third in the Big 10, compiled a 31-13 record in 2009, playing its fewest regular-season games since competing in 43 in 2002. Tammy Williams leads the way with a .445 average, 15 home runs and 36 RBI.

Texas State earns the No. 4 seed in the regional and received a bid as the Southland League champions. The Bobcats enters with a record of 39-16 on the season, including a 24-6 mark in conference play.

The Waco regional is paired with the Michigan regional as the winners of the two regionals will square off in a best-of-three series to determine who advances to the NCAA Women's College World Series. The Michigan regional consists of the Wolverines, the No. 5 overall seed, as well as Miami (OH), Cleveland State and Notre Dame.

The selection for the Lady Bears marks the fifth time in the last six years the team has been selected to the NCAA Softball Championship.
