Box Score
Texas State's Jenna Emery hit a solo home run to right field with one out in the top of the seventh to break up a no-hitter by the Lady Bear pitching staff and help give the Bobcats (26-12) a 2-0 win over Baylor (29-15) Tuesday night at Getterman Stadium.
The Lady Bears welcomed back Brette Reagan to the lineup after missing the last 21 games with a torn ACL. In addition, Whitney Canion became Baylor's new single season leader in strikeouts, breaking Cristin Vitek's record of 264 set back in 2004. Canion now has 273 on the season after throwing four innings of perfect ball and striking out nine on the night.
Turner came on in relief of Canion and helped keep the Lady Bears' perfect game in tact until a two-out walk in the sixth. A one-out home run from Emery broke up the scoreless tie and no-hitter, following which Chandler Hall hit a single up the middle and advanced to second on a throwing error by the center fielder. Following a strikeout by Brittany Turner, Ali McCormack looped a single just in front of a diving Tiffany Wesley in left to bring Hall around for the 2-0 lead.
With one out in the bottom of the seventh, Bree Hanafin tried to get a rally started with a double to right center. She advanced to third on a wild pitch, but was stranded after a strikeout and fly out to center ended the game.
Baylor threatened in the first as Reagan reached via fielder's choice and Alex Colyer singled through the right side with two outs, but a strikeout ended the opportunity.
Turner (4-2) took the loss after going 2.2 innings, allowing three hits, two runs, one earned, one walk and three strikeouts.
Hall (17-6) earned the win with a three hit, three strikeout performance in the complete game effort.
Baylor will return to conference action on Wednesday as it hits the road to face No. 20 Texas at 6:30 p.m. in Austin. The game can be heard live on 104.9 FM with pregame starting at 6:15 p.m
