Women's Golf Six Shots Back at Susie Maxwell

NORMAN, Okla. - Despite battling frigid temperatures and wind gusts of up to 40 miles per hour, the Baylor women's golf team used a second round 310 Sunday to pull within six shots of the lead at the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic.

The Lady Bears rebounded from a first round 325 during the first 18 holes on Sunday to come out and tally the 22-over round later in the day at the par-72, 6,013 yard course at the Jimmie Austin University of Oklahoma Golf Club.

Baylor currently holds fourth place heading into the third and final round of play on Monday. Host team Oklahoma sits atop the team leaderboard with a two round total of 629 (315-314). Ellen Mueller of Oklahoma and Sara Wikstrom of UALR are tied for the individual lead with one round remaining.

Senior Hannah Burke and freshman Chelsey Cothran paced a Lady Bears squad seeking its second straight tournament title. Both Burke (78-79) and Cothran (80-77) finished Sunday with a two round total of 157 and are in a five-way tie for seventh place individually.

After her second place finish last week at the Cincinnati Invitational, Jordan Rhodes tallied an 82 during the first round of play, followed by a 78, for a 160 on the day. Rhodes is currently tied for 17th overall.

Lene Hafsten-Morch shaved nine strokes off her first round 85, to card a 76 during the second round of play Sunday afternoon. Jaclyn Jansen rounded out team play for the Lady Bears with a 177 (86-91).

Competiting as an individual, Morgan Chambers posted a second round 76 to go along with a first round 87 to sit tied for 28th overall.

Baylor wraps up the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic with a 9 a.m. shotgun start Monday morning.
