Box Score

WACO - The Baylor softball team (34-17) put together an efficient offensive show, gathering eight runs on eight hits en route to an 8-0 win in five innings over UTSA (23-24) Tuesday evening at Getterman Stadium. The shutout was the 12th of the season for the Lady Bears.

Jenny Isham (2-0) threw three innings of no-hit ball, striking out two and walking just one to pick up her second win of the season. Brittany Turner came on in relief, giving up just two hits and fanning a pair in two innings of work.

Nicole Wesley led the way offensively, going 2-for-2 with three RBI and a run scored, while Brette Reagan belted her team-leading seventh home run of the season in her only credited at-bat.

Baylor got all the runs it would need in the first inning, as N. Wesley led off with a single, and Bree Hanafin reached on an error by the first baseman. After a sac bunt by Reagan, Alex Colyer drove in Wesley from third on a fielder's choice for the first run of the game. Colyer advanced on a passed ball, allowing Megan Turk to deliver and RBI-single up the middle for a 2-0 lead.

Three more runs crossed the plate for the Lady Bears in the second, with Jordan Vannatta leading off with a double down the left-field line. With one out, Wesley knocked a sac fly to right to bring Vannatta around to make it 3-0. Following a deep double to center by Hanafin, Reagan delivered a two-run shot to left field for a 5-0 lead.

The Lady Bears put the run rule in effect in the third, plating three additional runs. With the bases loaded and two outs, Wesley delivered a two-out single that scored Vannatta and Sydney Wilson. Hanafin the came to the plate and reached after an error on the shortstop, allowing Sophia Lujan to hustle home from second, giving BU an 8-0 advantage.

The win marked the second victory for Baylor over the Roadrunners, as the Lady Bears are now 10-1 against the Southland Conference.

Baylor will remain at home for a showdown with No. 23 Texas (34-14) beginning at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Getterman Stadium. Derek Smith will deliver all the play-by-play action beginning at 6:15 on 104.9 FM, or you can log on to baylorbears.com for live video and audio.
