Coach Steve Smith
On his team's production with two outs
"Lot of things with two outs today, beginning in the first inning. Early in the game the breeze was coming in from right field and I thought everybody was going to be safe if they forced hitters to hit to right field, but Aaron Miller really, really got a hold of that ball early for the two run homerun in the first. We got a very clutch pinch-hit at-bat by Kenton Gedwed. We got a Landis Ware base hit. I just thought we competed very well. The thing you don't want to do when you are playing on the road is you don't want to try to win close. You need to try to have more than you need, because things just happen. You are playing in unfamiliar surroundings and you get a bad hop or you get something unexpected happen, so I thought our guys did a good job tonight just expanding the lead."
On pitcher Kendal Volz's performance
"The only real problem he had was not being able to overcome our error. We make the error there with two outs in the seventh and they wind up putting three runs on the board. They got a good offensive team. They got some physical guys. They may not be as physical as in years past, but they are playing at home and this park is a hitter's park deluxe. He had to be good. He had to be on his A-game tonight. He made some good changes last week mechanically that helped him and I think he just picked up where he left off and was even better tonight."
On Dustin Dickerson's hitting streak
"He is just a good hitter, that is really all you can say about him. He has got a good head on his shoulders for hitting. He has got a pretty good approach, uses the whole field. I think the only way to describe Dustin is to say he is a good hitter."
On Raynor Campbell's defensive play
"That can go unremembered in a game like this, but Raynor's play early in the game. They squared up some balls early in the game and he made some great plays on them over at third base. There is no doubt in a game like this those things are huge."
Junior Kendal Volz
On his outing today
"They are an aggressive team and I was using off speed early in the count to get some quick outs, that always gives you a chance to go deep in the game, so it just worked out that way."
On having run support
"It was nice. Our hitters are doing a great job. The thing I think they are doing great this year is they put up two in the first, but then they scored again in the fourth and sixth, seventh and eighth. That is big time on the road especially. You never know what will happen with the ball flying out of the park and errors and that kind of thing. It was a great job by them. They are really in a zone rig
